The boy is getting into Scholastic Clay Target program and likes shooting doves. We bought him a Mossberg 500 pump, but sold it to get him a gun better suited to shooting lots of rounds on the range. We are considering some of the lower priced autoloaders like the Weatherby SA-08 and Beretta A300 Outlander since he is just starting and we're not sure how long he'll stick with it. He shoots a single barrel trap gun that the Club owns very well so we are considering Over/Unders also. The kid is huge and can shoot a 12 gauge no problem, so 20 gauge is out. Can anyone recommend a good beginner gun for the trap and skeet range and doves? Budget around $500-750 or so.
Take a look at the CZ O/U mfg by Huglu. Or pick up maybe a used Browning O/U
I'd look for a nice clean remington 1100or 11-87 or a beretta auto. Should be able to find a good one for that kind of $ or even less. Just my .02

I'm "all grown up" too, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy shooting a 20, or even 28, gauge.

I wouldn't rule out a 20 gauge just cause the kid is big.
