I am thinking about getting one of these for one of my kids. Does anyone have any experience with the Remington Youth ? Does it have light recoil, is it dependable?
I got one of these for my son, who already had a youth model 870. He never took to the little 1100, said it was heavier than the pump and didn't swing as well. I didn't notice it, but I'm not 13, as he was then. I sold it for what I paid for it to a friend whose kid liked the black plastic stock.

It should be as reliable as any 1100, which is pretty good.
Our local 4-H has two 1100 20 ga. youth models and three standard size in 12 ga. for the Shooting Sports program. The kids love them. The 20's go through maybe a couple thousand rounds a year and we have not had any problem as long as they're kept clean. (I get to clean and maintain them <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />) Last season we had no failures to feed, extract, or anything else with any of the 1100's.

The soft recoil and good fit is one reason, proper fit being essential. We always have a couple kids that just cannot shoot with pumps and single shots from home, actually painful to watch. When we can gently persuade them to switch to a club 20 or 12 the improvement is astounding. We like them for safety too as the action automatically stays open after the shot.
