New-to-me jp sauer 20ga grouser has a crack developing to left of tang on side wall. It may hold up forever, or it may split out tomorrow; would like to repair it now and be done. Usual smith i used back in NC is two years out... so new recomendations welcomed for a shotgunsmith knowledgeable on older sxs's. All the better if west MT, ID panhandle, or w. WA, but whatever it takes. Thx in advance.
IIRC that is a very square boxlock???

I would bet it will not get worse unless there is some problem with the wood...

Which is likely the nexus of the current problem. any reasonable shotgun smith ought to be able to grind out some wood on the back side and fill it with enough fibers to make the wood invincible.
That would be epoxy with fibers.
Daniel Morgan in Woodstock VT. Fabulous smith and works on some fabulous shotguns!!!
