I recently bought a used Citori that according to the date code is a 1979. Is it safe to use steel shot in? We are required to use steel shot in our upland restoration areas.

My gun has fixed chokes, improved and modified. I can't tell which one is the top barrel, is there a system that is set in stone, like the more open choke on top or bottom?
I think all Citori's are ok with steel shot. You should be able to see which barrel is which by marks on the block which holds them together and into the action. I would be quite surprised if the lower isn't more open. Either way, Browning.com should have an answer for you somewhere inside.
Bottom barrel is always the more open choke.
yes, I had one about that same age, there should be a ** stamped on the upper barrel block, might be under the edge of the ejector, and mine had a **- on the lower, IIRC. try sliding the ejector edge back and see if it has the marks.
Yep, that's how this one is marked. Thanks
Colfax, eh? I worked there years ago with USDA. lived in Steptoe, Man I miss the good bird hunting up there!
