I've got an old family hand me down Stevens 520 12 gauge pump shotgun. As near as I can tell its the original circa 1909 version as designed by John Moses Browning himself. Original finish is long since gone, but no rust. Seems like everything is there and functions fine. What would a shotgun like this be worth?

$150 to someone who really, really has to have one no matter what and is not willing to look any further than you. $100- maybe $125 to most everyone else- especially considering the condition.

A gun shop locally has one with more finish than you indicate for $125 and it's been on the rack for a couple of months. The age, condition, fixed (probably Full) choke, likely plain barrel, and unusual look will turn off most people. Unfortunately, it doesn't have much collector interest and the condition sounds poor so the value will be pretty low.

Thanks for the reply.

Also timing can be an issue with these. They were made in a time where you can hold the trigger down and shoot as fast as you can pump it. If the timing is off and you try this, it's very hard on the shotgun. It may still be worth looking at as there were WWI trench gun versions with a high premium in value.

The Steven's 520 has a unique takedown, along with a square hole on top of the receiver so you could see it lock up., to reassure the shooter. I got two of them, they work most of the time. Also have a 620 riot barrel with cuts for hand guard but no handguard. Mel

Got one too, curious about this...

"I got two of them, they work most of the time."

What do they do when they are being bad? Had a an old Remington model 10 that fired when the bolt closed with no finger on the trigger.

5th shock: shell from magazine gets past shell stop and jams gun, has to dissemble to clear .

Thanks. The Winchester 94 has something similar that goes on with a worn stud on the carrier which is an integral part of the carrier. Ah John Moses, why do you do us this way?
