What would a NIB unfired set of Winchester 23 Golden Quail bring?
12,20,28..410 all in Italian leather cases all with the same serial number

My estimation is that the value will be highly dependant upon the 28 and .410. Those are going to be the REAL high dollar guns.

I'd guess $4000 - $4500 for the 12. $5500-ish for the 20. And whatever someone is willing to pay for the other two.

Who'd have ever thunk 35-40 years ago that Jap-made shotguns...............

PS......... A Jap-made Model 23 in 20 or 28 gauge has been on my bucket list for quite some time......

I think $5K all day for the 12ga. In my opinion probably best to sell it at auction. It is a hell of a nice set.

Well made SxS, however doubt few will be willing to go beyond 30k. My opinion 20-25k and that would be a hard sell. They don’t have the rep of a 21 or Parker. Engraving on the Quails is nothing to get excited about.

The 23 had so much unrealized potential. Most came with 25.5 inch barrels and ended up not balanced the best. Longer leaner barrels would have made them better than good. Then they had to add on an oversized beavertail forend instead of a slender splinter

The Deluxe 20/28 two barrel set is the sleeper combination.

I could like a Light Duck. Hollow out the stock some and have the Beavertail cut down and refinished to a splinter....Hmmmmm

They have a small following. If they are as new unfired I don't see a problem selling them.

Quail...……….grouse (even though they're virtually extinct here now)……...….pheasant over pointing dogs...……..what have you...…….....

I've become a huge fan of the 20 gauge for about anything. Lighter, more nimble platforms are available and, other than geese, I've found no job a 12 will do that a 20 won't in semi-competent hands. I only own one 28 in a vintage single. Have yet to really assess its capabilities. But similar payload to the 20 in field loads, so......…….

I’m sure they can get sold, and the SN’s being the same is a bonus. However, I don’t think they should go for the top-end dollars mentioned. It would take a seriously dedicated Model 23 collector to pay 50K. Is that individual out there? Time will tell.

Yes the 20ga will kill everything just fine. I even kill geese with it.

I love the 28ga in the grouse and woodcock woods. Light fast and a joy. Have killed game preserve Pheasants with the 28ga also. But 28ga and Quail are like Chocolate and peanut butter.

Almost pulled the trigger (see what I did there) on a CZ Bobwhite 28 one time. Seemed like a pretty OK gun. I'm not looking to break the bank on a gun that there's nothing around here to hunt with. But thinking maybe an Athena D'Italia. I'm a sucker for an English stock and a pair of triggers.

I have had a couple 23s and they were all great guns. I have kept the 12ga with factory chokes as I do not hunt with a SxS much and whatever I got the itch to do would be done just fine with this gun

They were good guns, except the triggers. Never could like them on that account. Very well put together otherwise.
