Just picked up a ca ridgeline and going to the mountains next year. Was looking for some input on Light weight scopes.
Would like to hear the pros and cons of scopes you have owned.
Define your version of "light". Chambering/bullet? Application? Mounting system? Hint.

Mass is THE worst way to shop glass.

Hint...............

It would be a good idea to provide more information. An idea of the distances involved would be good, as well as what you're going to be shooting at in the mountains. And of course, an idea of how much you are willing to spend.

Twisting turrets? Need more info
I will be hunting elk and mule deer with this rifle. 6.5 Creedmoor 142 grain Nosler accubond. 600 yards is my max for now. Around 700 dollars would be max budget.
I have twisting turrents on an Lrp Leupold but it’s the only one I own so it’s undecided on that aspect.
Would like to stay with 30 mm tube but have been looking at the Swarovski scopes.
Was just looking for some advice on scope people have on their light weight setups. What rings they used. Just some ideas
If I need to answer any other questions let me know and I will answer them.

Whitetails

Pretty dang hard to hit a target @600 (with a killing shot) without using turrets. This not just banging steel or perforating paper on a range. Yes, experienced shooters can do it off the right "windshield", but that takes much practice, and is easier done by dialing.

Reading the wind for that long a shot is also a skill that few trouble to acquire. Not saying you don't have the skills, but just mentioning these issues for you to consider.

As far a Swarovski scopes, none I see for $700. are anywhere near suitable for a 600 yd shot. Their BRX reticle will give you some rough drops, but you'll have to guesstimate the windage. Not the recipe for a cold bore 600 yd hit.

With a 6.5 Creedmore the 142 grain LR Accubond with have about 81" of drop and 22" of drift in a full value 10 MPH breeze at 600 yds.

Talley rings are lite and solid. For light weight rig I’d stay below 12x. With quality 12 you’ll be able to see past 600 yards easy
It’s my opinion the lightest scope you’ll get away with for reliably dialing and maintaining zero is a Nightforce SHV 3-10 or SWFA SS 3-9.

I can meet your price point on a lightly used Nightforce SHV 3-10 if interested.
SWFA SS 3-9x
Accubomb's suck,as do Talley's,but The Paper Hat Brigade has gotta TRY. Hint. LAUGHING!

I'd "prolly" be shooting 147's.

I've "only" had (8) LW's fail thus far,but obviously have removed 'em from service. Flap your fhuqking lips some more, you CLUELESS Kchunt. Hint. LAUGHING!

Jayzzus! Look at that fcuking rust!

Great job there Stinky.

You taking a great gun and turning it into something that resembles your life, is your greatest talent.

For a mount on a Ridgeline, I'd go picatinny rail and make things easy. A lightweight optic is subjective. Scopes are getting bigger and heavier. What weight and magnification range are your looking for?
Rail and Nightforce 4-screw ultralight 30mm or Warne Mountain Tech 1” rings have worked really well for me.

The swfa is ~ 3 oz lighter and has a longer mounting surface, if that matters to you.
6mm,

At least you can "afford" to "live" vicariously, you Brokedick Whiner as you gawk wares beyond your "means"...you "lucky" kchunt. Hint. Congratulations?!?

Rain is purty "scary". Hint. LAUGHING!

Dipsy,

Nightfarce tries. Hint..............

AK',

Pass the 6x MQ. Hint.

If only for parallax and added inclination.

Re-hint...............
None of the rifles I carry ever rusted like yours. I guess I just know how to take care of stuff.

You only know how to fkcu stuff up.

What a loser you are.
You lost good guns to your stupidity
And you lost your family for being a complete azzhole.
You deserve it, but your family didn't.
6mm,

Too bad you can't afford a camera, because it'd be funnier than fhuqk to have a picture of your crossed-eyes,with a weather report...you "lucky" kchunt. Hint. Congratulations?!?

Fortunately for you,Imagination and Pretend are free,so you can "afford" to "contribute". Hint. LAUGHING!

Have a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x42 ZL - Don't really need the turret for hunting but it's fun for dinging steel at long range.

That's just good old fashioned thread locker!
I tend to use straight 4x, or 6x scopes. However, in our area shots past 200 yards are rare unless you hunt along a pipeline.
It sounds as thought you'll need something that is eminently repeatable when twisting turrets.
Let us know which scope you select.

These are some of my favorite on lighter kicking rifles. I knew someone that managed to scope themselves with one once even thought they have decent eye relief and ended up in the ER for several stitches. The rear eye piece is kind of a cookie cutter and doesn't have a rubber ring. That keeps me from putting one on my 375 ruger. I did just put another on my fieldcraft 7-08 though and it doesn't worry me but ill have to keep an eye on kids when they shoot it.

A scope and mounts are the last place I worry about saving a few ounces. I worry more about balance than total weight though.

Most of the time I just go with the fixed 6 anymore because its half the price and has been more reliable but I do prefer the glass on the 3-9.

I'm waiting for the black Friday sale again and will pick up another 4 fixed 6s and 2-3 3-9s and maybe a few more 3-15 mil/mils if they're on a good sale again.

I wish they made a fixed 8 with the rear parallax and the glass from the 3-9.

Good shooting form can in large part mitigate the risk of getting scoped. I had a SS 3-9x on my Kimber Montana in 7WSM shooting 162's and 180's for a while, and never had a problem with it even when shooting uphill from prone. With the wrong shooting form or enough recoil I can see it being a problem, though.
Vortex LH 2-10 is easily doable out to 600 with the HSR-MOA. It weighs 15oz and you can use the holdovers out to 600. They discounted them but should be able to find them around.
I bought a Tikka Superlite in 6.5 Creed for the grandkids to use. I put a 3-9 HD SWFA on it so we could all start learning the mil system. A Mt. Tactical rail and Nightforce titanium rings. This rifle is a hunting rifle, if we want to regularly shoot into the next zip code from the bench I will put a bigger scope on it.

I am tempted to try on my Mod 70 in 30-06 and .338 Win.

For our use the scope is about perfect and with a skilled shooter the whole set up is capable of delivering hits much further then I want to use a 6.5 Creed for.

That is because you do not throw them in the river for a week at a time when you fish. LOL
Leica ER 5 is 22oz or 23oz in 2-10 or 3-15
I have a VX2 2-7 on a lightweight 700 in an Edge. I don't think I could find a better fit for that rifle.
Take a hard look at the new Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15, I put one on my CA Mesa 6.5 PRC and honestly I have owned a lot of scopes from Zeiss, SWFA, Nightforce SHV’s, Leupold, Meopta...etc, this new Razor is hands down the sweetest scope I have owned yet.
