Stupid question but I have to ask for sanity sake. A mil dot reticle will have dots spaced out at exactly at 1 millirad?

I ask because I got a Turglo scope with a mil dot reticle. I use Sterlok for my ballistic calculator (hasn't let me down yet). The reticle is not in the library BUT there is a US Marine and US Army MilDot reticle. The difference being 10.8" and 10.6" between dots at 300 yards. So I guess a mildot is not always the same spacing? So confused 😕

Most MRAD scopes these days use increments that are true MRADs. The US Army simplified their system by using increments slightly smaller than a true MRAD. Here is a link. Some of the info is a little bit off, technically, but it's a good general summary.

I just finished the article. I will call the manufacturer on Monday to find out if it's US Army or USMC millirads. At close distances I have never encountered an issue even though I just found out my math could be off at longer distance...like really long distance. Hitting a bull Elk at 500 meters should not matter if it's either.

I'm just hoping it's one or the other and not some "proprietary we know better what a Mildot should be"

Similar question: Are the MOA reticles 1" at 100 yards or the true value of 1.047" at 100 yards? Won't make a difference at any range under a mile, so just an academic question.

As I mentioned, almost all current MRAD scopes use true MRAD increments. For a while, March was using US Army increments but later changed to true MRAD, IIRC.

Current MOA reticles are true MOA, AFAIK. Some “MOA” turrets have IPHY increments, however.
