Can someone ID (model etc) this scope? It's a 3-9 Weaver of some description...and horribly long.

It looks very similar to the "Challenger USA" by Weaver 3x9 variable I had at one time.

Marksman or Challenger, Not a very good scope from what I've seen-move the eyepiece and the crosshairs will also move...Micro Trac will say so on turrent boss.

It looks like a very early V-9 with the long power adjustment housing.

Didn't El Paso V9s always have AOs?

It looks like an Asian-made Marksman or Challenger series scope to me, Weaver's answer to Redfield's Tracker series.

Now that I have it at home I can have a good look at it. Turns out it's a Weaver Marksman 3x-9x USA.

Nice old Sako....never saw a rear long range iron sight like that on a Sako.

Extended high rings to get eye relief and clear the iron. Rear iron looks like it's banded to the barrel ?

I can see the "Boffers Steel" mark on the barrel just above your finger tip....I'm guess early to mid 1960's ?
My 1959 vintage .243 is a tack driver.

The Weaver scope was High Tech in the day....looks well cared for....probably one of the first successful variable power scopes. If the scope is still clear and will hold zero it will be a shooter.

They also made them in 3/4" tubes for .22's.

I'd take the old long azz Weaver over any Asian made crap any day.

Yep, you're right. The serial number on that L461 Vixen indicates it was made in either 1961 or 1962.
