Question for you guys that have experience with the vortex viper. The web site says they have enclosed turrets so does this mean I could zero at 100 yards use the turrets to dial for longer shots the same way I do with my strike eagle with exposed turrets (obviously I would have to remove the cap)

I believe

the HS is the plain jane capped turrets w/SF----correct me if wrong

Maybe look for the HST....HS-LR...PST...some of these may be out of production

Athlon came out and seemed to put Vortex in a corner

I still use several HST & PST scopes on dog guns..oh & one of the first Strike Eagles off the boat
What is SF
Oh side focus probably lol
They look like they have some kind of spring so you can set them to 0

I HAD one. The eyebox sucked on 16x,,Just a little tunnel...Then, if you dialed much you would have to rezero..The pull up turrets were handy because you were constantly rezeroing...Run, don't walk away..

Lots better options in that price range..
I've mounted a handful of these and I believe that the HS (high speed) has an exposed 1/2 MOA turret on top and a capped 1/4 MOA for windage. Out of the few, the ones on my son's Tikka T3x 7mmRM (loaded down to 280 Remish) and a friend's (breaked) Mdl 70 300RUM seem to be performing well after 4 to 5 years. The other two (I guess I've mounted 4) [bleep] the bed ASAP.

Some folks have had good luck with the PSTs but the first one I mounted on my Dad's (breaked) 300 Win [bleep] the bed while sighting it in and the second one [bleep] the bed on its first hunting trip (major poi shift and it took 2 of us to hold the rifle and twist the power knob from 25x to 5x at -10 Deg F).

I know that lots of people have had good luck with them but I'm done with Vortex except for their Razor models, which also enjoy a good reputation but I've never even touched.

Cross
HS stands for Hunting/Shooting.. Mine was standard 1/4 MOA

HS-LR used an exposed elevation/target turret with 1/4" clicks

Windage was a capped turret with 1/2" clicks

I have one with a BDC reticle but mine is not the LR. I thought the LR's had 1/2 MOA on elevation and 1/4 MOA on windage, I may be wrong on that
Mine has the exposed turrets but is 1/4 MOA on both elevation and windage
