How is the eye relief on these scopes at the 14x end of the magnification range? Interested in the FFII and the E1 scopes.

I use the FFII and E1 reticles on light recoiling and 17 HMR rifles without issues. I really like this scope on 17 HMR for walk about prairie dog shooting.

I have a FF II 4.5-14 and the eye relief is about 3” on 14x.

Have one on my nephew 6.5 creedmoor nice scope for the money.

I would agree with this. I have one of these on a .17 HMR where it works well. I wouldn't put one on a hard recoiling rifle.

What would you think of throwing one on a lightweight 270 like a Tikka?

Yep, have one on a 25.06 for about 18 years now, never a problem. Check zero and go hunting.

Buddy of mine has one on a 700 ADL chambered in 30-06. He loves it. Not necessarily a lightweight but he has no issues.

It would probably be OK on a .270. I wouldn't want one on a 7.5 lb .300 Win Mag though. Just my personal opinion.

I had one on a kimber Montana to 280 AI During load work up. Shooting it from the bench was just fine, but I don’t know if I’d want it on that rifle if shooting at steep angles in the field.

Thanks all for the info. I was thinking about getting one for a Tikka T3 Lite in 30-06 and am leaning towards the 3-9x40. I know you can always crank the magnification down, but the BDC reticle is meant to be used at max magnification.

If you're needing to use the holdover marks to shoot, then it would be best to crank the power up.

For sure, I'm just saying that I'm concerned about limited eye relief on the top end of magnification.

I had one of these on a cast bullet rifle for load development use. I don't recall an eye relief problem and I used it mostly on the highest power. Adjustments were repeatable and overall a pretty good scope except for the reticle.

You can use the Burris Ballistic program to determine solutions at different power levels. For example, make a note of distances at 6X and at 9X.

I have one on a Stainless Tikka T3x lite 270 and it works just fine for me. I have zero complaints.

Bowmanh: Why would you NOT use it on a hard recoiling rifle? For you to say that, is there something wrong or inadequate with your scope? Or do you have a reference to something you read?

KU Geo: For those who are old-school and don't have a ballistic turret but do use a decent rangefinder that compensates for angle in range determination, would you still not advise using it for steep shots? If so, why?

Offshore man, my comment was not necessarily about steep angles and ballistic calibration with the BDC reticle. It was about the relatively short eye relief at high power zoom combine with awkward angle shooting positions and Lightweight rifles. I’m launching 160 grain at coupons at 3000 ft./s with the Ackley, and it’s pretty snappy. With a steep uphill shot and I’m pretty sure that scope would be tagging my eyebrow. Not a problem with your flatlander or even for a lot of western hunting, but something to keep in mind

I also wish the parallelax adjustment and magnifications rings weren’t so hard to turn. Last few have been ridiculously stiff.

On paper the eye relief is no worse on the 4.5-14 model than on the 3-9. Those of you who have used both - do you find that to be the case?
