Looking for something under 20 ounces with a lighted reticle. Looking at the VX5 2-10 or either scope in the 3-15 power.

Both appear available for around 800 ish.

Probably going on a 308 that will be used for a dark timber baited bear hunt this fall and mostly for something to start shooting more at 500-600 yards.

Thanks

Leupold
But honestly the Vortex on my VLS 22-250 I can't complain about.

I would consider the Nightforce SHV 3-10 as well. Meets your criteria and very durable. I've used the Vortex LHT 3-15 and the SHV 3-10. I like them both and the 10X is plenty magnification to shoot critters at 600 yards.

Where are you seeing LHT for $800?

LHT no question...for me.
I have both a VX-5HD 2-10 and a SHV 3-10, like them both.

The glass on the VX-5HD is real nice, but I have it on a rifle I just don't use that much, but it seems to adjust properly, and I don't have any complaints with it. I've had it out a few time, mostly shooting, no trouble with dialing or the zero is not wandering about. It's on a 24" barreled .30-06 I put together about 5 years ago and I've only hunted it a couple times, preferring one of my more compact .308s. One of those has the SHV.

I have no experience with the LHT.
AK - Military/1st responder discount - 50% off MSRP through the end of the month.

Thanks for the responses so far

Leupold would probably be 2nd hand, but available in that range or a little less.

I just picked up a lightly used 3-15 LHT in great shape for $850. But not $800 or NIB.

That discount would be sweet.
I have 5 LHTs. Sold all my VX5s. There's no comparison. VX5s are good scopes but not LHTs.

Could you elaborate on the reasons why you like them better?

Maybe I'll switch too. But when I got my VX5s there was no such thing as a LHT. Just got mine today, seems pretty nice.

Yes, I'd like to know as well.

Have until the 31st to take advantage of the sale on the LHT.

Dennis,

How have they held up to handling/getting banged around. I’m sure you are aware of the Rokslide review.

I’ve got two that I’m going to mount up, just not on big game guns where it might be one chance in a lifetime shot.

Thx,
Bob
Ain't they all?.....

I have one on a 340 Wby that weighs 8#. I have the FFP model on a 338 Norma. They're solid scopes . The reticle and illumination is spot on. I haven't had a problem yet. They don't have enough elevation to shoot ELR but that's not what they're for

Vx5 no questions.

They missed the ball on reticles on the LHT. For most general hunting use, the choices suck.

The military discount is actually 55% off MSRP through May. So, $801.90 for the 3-15 LHT.

Since I already have a couple 3-15 LHT's, I'm kickin' around snagging 12x50 Razor UHD binos @$1150 for the truck.

IMO the wide duplex sucks as a hunting reticle in the VX5 also.

The lit dot in the Firedot duplex barely saves it for me. I suspect it may save the LHT too.

Having used several of the VX-5HD and VX-6HD scopes with the firedot duplex in hunting and target use, I prefer that one over most any others. Really opens up the field, but yet the dot can be lit if needed for low light conditions. The old version was ok in past scopes, but I'm glad they made the change for the new models.
I always thought the reticle G4i on the LHT was very nice , I don't like the red bleed thru when using it. I sent mine down the road last year.

Good thought! That’s exactly what I did with the Tract 12x50s when they had their Christmas sale. I try to never pay full retail for anything, especially optics.
I've had both. Not that it counts for much, but I thought the glass was better on the VX-5's. It's come down to which reticle I preferred. I No longer have any of either of those scopes.

Have a growing cache of NF 3-10's, though.

I love the reticle on the LHT

I'd lean toward the LHT is you want a 3-15x.

Yes they actually track well

All the ones I have seen certainly do.

I had Jon LaCorte from Tract join me on my Livestream yesterday and, as we were going over his product line, I realized that I have sorta forgotten about his 1" Toric scopes. They are MOA only, I think, which is why they do not pop up on my horizon a lot. In terms of optomechanical quality, these are in the same conversation as the VX-5 and HD-LHT. Toric lacks illumination, but the reticles are reasonably well sized.
If we look at the 3-15x models, in terms of center field resolution, I think HD-LHT is a little better than the other two, but aside from that, optical performance is pretty close.
If you are OK with MOA and do not care about illumination, these cost meaningfully less than VX-5 or HD-LHT.
