4x Leupold. 6x Leupold, 6x Sightron to name a few

They are compact and light, yet long enough to fit nicely on long-action and magnum rifles. They have great, clear optics with a nice field of view. They stand up to anything, including recoil from rifles I wouldn't want to shoot. And, at least on the rifles I use them on, like my .404 Jeffery and .444 Marlin, are more than enough optics to shoot as far as I'm going to.

They are the near-perfect model of a certain specific type of riflescope. The only thing that will be better is when Leupold comes out with an F-II 3X.

i am assuming this thread is a spin off of the 3x M8 f/s in the classifieds.

it's not just the 3x, the M8's are excellent, tough, no frills hunting scopes that just plain WORK!


i have a few of the M8's, and they are reliable and functional 110%...this is the attraction for me.
also, as tough as nails when mounted on the 'heavy hitters'

Nice style of a scope and very good quality for the money. It also fits well on 95% of rifles where you do not want or need a big objective lens hanging out the front of the action .The 1.5-5 leupold took over as the plain and simple, does the job, type scope .The little 2.5 would do the same job but it looks too small. I'm in for a FX2 in 3x if they make it, I don't need one but I want one.

I love the 3X Leupold for all the reasons listed above. I can only add one very important reason not mentioned in the above posts, and that is the less objective sticking out in front of that front ring, the more likely the scope is to hold its zero with rough handleing that comes with hunting.

My next favorite choice is the wonderful little 1x4 varible and for all the same reasons...

Then there is that little 7/8" tube, 2.5x Leupold Alaskan on my 9.3x62 and its plumb sexy...

I just wish Leupold would wake up and come out with another batch of those 7/8" scopes, they are excellent for big game hunting under all conditions..

Todays sport is consumed with POWER in scopes for big game hunting and its not unusual to see a 4x16 varible on a nice light feather weight rifles. When I see this, I have to make a run for the John and toss my cookies! :):):) ...It's called anal scope syndrome clarity and confusion.

Its not sought after by me! I tried the tube diameter objectives and I find that, for my eye and use, that they don't provide the brightness or clarity that I get with a larger scope.

Thats why I don't want one.
