Guys, I have found a Sightron SII 3 x 9 x 42 scope for 179.95 brand spanking new. Any opinions on quality etc. Thanks in advance....goodshot

GS..........From another member here, I recently picked up a one year old 2.5-10x32 Sightron S11 for $165.00 including the shipping. So the price of $180 for a new 3-9x42 S11 is extremely good. Definetely go for it.

I did happen to call Sightron before my purchase. I asked them how the S2s compare say to the Leupy VX111s as I have one of those.

They said that for optical quality, the S2s would fall in-between the VX11s and the VX111s. After getting my S2, I went outside and compared the optical quality in all magnifications between my VX111 and S2. To be honest, I really couldn`t see the difference. They are that close. So if there is a difference in any way, it would be very little at best.

Lap that baby up ASAP!!!

I've got one of the SII 3-9x42's on my Sako Finnbear .30-06 and like it very much. Very clear and the adjustments seem to be more accurate than any of my Leupy's.

That sounds like a decent deal. I have a Sightron SII in 4X16 and it is a nice scope. I am in the middle of selling it and I want $275 for it. So your price sounds very good. Tom.

Sightrons were the darling of this sight a few years ago. A big reason was(is) the replacement warranty. Quality was touted as nothing short of fantastic and another better buy than similarly priced Leupold. Based on that I pointed a few towards them and was thanked for it. I even bought one - a 3-12x42. What I like: the size and looks. Brightness is pretty good but I am kind of jaded towards fixed scopes in that regard. Tracking is very accurate and repeatable, superb, and on par with Weavers (again just from my experience). Things I am less thrilled about: the click adjustments are mushy on mine but that seems common to a lot of brands at that price point and shouldn't really be a show stopper. It is just nice once you get a scope with sharp clicks for a change. Eye relief is less than forgiving - and that is my biggest complaint. I also get flaring and light from behind is problematic at times. Overall I feel I got a good deal but I would be every bit as happy with a comparably priced Burris for example. I think the Burris has better glass and is more forgiving but the Sightron has better tracking. Click mushiness is equal- and Burris is 1/2 moa not 1/4. The point is there are little trade offs but at the same $$$ I like both better than the VX-1. You can occasionally find a Burris in the #4 reticle and that would cinch it for me. One new make in that price range I would like to at least check out is a Vortex Diamondback. For whatever it might be worth to you.

I have that scope. So little eye relief that I wound up putting it on a 22 magnum.

The Sightron website list's the eye releif at 3.6"-4.2". I plan on mounting it on a Custom 250Savage AI.....very low recoil. maily used for Deer and some Coyote hunting. I think it should be just fine for that application. I was thinking about new Redfield scope but I think this might just be a better scope. I ordered it today.Thanks for all of the feedback.I had a Sightron 1.5-6x42 on a Remington model 7 7mm-08 as my go to deer gun when I lived in northern wisconsin. That scope is no longer made, but I used it for 4 seasons without issue. It now sits on a friends 30-06 in the same country and he loves it.When I saw the sII at a buck 80 I thought...why not!

I have the Sightron 3x9x42 and it is the best scope I own. Optically it is very good, and the adjustments are suberb. I expect you will be satisfied with the scope at that price.

Ive had two sightrons and although optically they are nice they are VERY finicky to eye positioning. One was an SII and the other was a Big Sky SII so I would say they are all very eye position sensitive.

This is just my opinion but to me this scope is a POS not worthy of putting on a good rifle, if you plan to keep this rifle buy a better scope.

The SII series are very good scopes for the money, and easily compare with VXII's, Fullfield IIs, Elite 3200s, and Buckmasters. The Big Sky series are even better, and compete with VXIII level scopes. I have two SII scopes, a fixed 6x42HBR on a .17 HMR and a 3-9x42 on a flat bolt Ruger 77 .243. The fixed 6x42 is just as bright as my Leupold M8 6x42, FCII 6x36, and my 6x Monarch. Any price under $175-185 is a pretty good deal, and I think you will be happy with the glass.

Now, if you want to be impressed, try one of the SIII series scopes. I honestly do not think there is a scope under $1k that can compete with them. Glass is fantastic, turrets are dead solid, and Sightron's customer service is second to none.

I have a SI on my .223 and it is clear and held zero for over 4-years now. It is cleare than my Leu[pold I think, but not sure I would putit on my 338.
