i am setting up a new savage model 212 bolt action 12ga for white tail hunting in new york state. i have been looking at a leupold ultimate slam, shotgun/ muzzle loader scope, 3-9x40mm. any information on the qualtiy of this scope vs another. i am new to the world of shooting with a scope and dont think the gun will have any range beyond 200 yds. i have found it for sale new for $280?
thanks in advance for any info and help.. ryan.
look at the 4xs listed on the classified. Save some $
thank you, i did. how important is it to put a "shotgun" scope on a shotgun? what is the difference in a rifle scope and a shotgun scope?
There is no mechanical difference; the only difference is the parallax setting of 75 yards instead of the 150 yard setting used for rifle scopes. I have seen no practical difference between Leupold's shotgun scopes and their VX-1 counterparts, aside from the parallax, which can be adjusted by the Leupold custom shop.

Remember the Redfield and Leupold have a lifetime guaranty.
thank you for the info sweetsues. i just ordered the gun from the local gun center and they had the leupold scopes there and let me play for a bit. i think i will be buying the 3-9 from them along with the gun.
I picked up a Brand new Leupold ultimate slam for my ML and I love it. I got mine for $250. PM me if you want more info.
The only differences are the parallax setting is set for 75 yds. and they have heavy duplex reticles instead of medium duplex reticles. E
