Hey guys, I ran across a used leupy and need some help with pricing. A local gunshop has it and they have been known to price gouge, so I'm wondering what these sell for used in decent shape, very minimal rings marks and good glass (scratch free). Thanks.
I didn't know they offered a 4-12x50 with AO.

Hey mathman, I don't know leupys too well. Did they make them with the 40mm objective and AO? The objective looked pretty big to me for a 40 so I'm assuming it was a 50 mm. I do know it was AO though. I'll change the question. Thanks.
The 40 came with AO, they made a 50 without.

It'll be imprinted on the scope.

Since you said you don't know Leupolds well, I'll ask: Are you using VX as an abbreviation for Vari-X?
Isn't vari-x the same as VX? Thus VX-II would be VX-2 and vari-x II? The scope said "4x12 VXII" on it and is a variable power (4-12) with the adjustable objective and what I believed was a 50mm objective becasue of its size. Can't remember if it said what the objective size was but I'm sure it said it somewhere (just not near the 4x12). The guy wants $350.00 for it and I'm wanting to know if it is worth that or if I should pass. Thanks mathman as you are usually pretty good help here. Sorry for not being an all knowing leupy snob blush. That's why I'm asking questions.

Nope, Leupold's choice of nomenclature is unfortunate.

The VX is an update (adjustments, coatings) of the Vari-X, and even within the newer VX period there is an upgrade from multicoating on external lenses to full multicoating on all lenses.

That price is about $100 off new.
Thanks mathman. I just got through with doing some research on Leupolds site and found out some more info regarding what you just confirmed. Looks like it would be wise to buy a new one over the used at that price... Thanks for your help mathman.
I would pass on $350 for a 4X12 Leupold. I am about to list a 4.5X14X40 with the B&C reticle for $425. And that is a considerably better scope than the 4X12.

I am not looking to sell the scope yet. I am stil trying to decide. But that is about what one in excellent shape would be worth. I only stated that I am thinking about selling it to give you a real world price of what they are worth.

If you could get it in the $275 range, and maybe $300 it might be a decent deal. But I would not go over $275. Whether it is a 40 of 50mm OL. Personaly I don't believe there is a dimes bit of difference between a 40 and a 50 in the 4X12 scope. Just an opinion. Tom.

Think about 275.00 for a gloss with slight ring marks is about right. I really like the Leupold 4-12's, have a several of them.

I'm looking for the exact scope you might be selling. If you decide in the next 2 or 3 days to sell it I'd be interested.
Thanks
