Anybody have any hands on experience with the Brockman Pop Up Peep scope base, that is a modified Talley base with a pop up aperature sight that pops up when the scope is removed? I'm putting together a custom .376 Steyr and it will have a QD scope on it. I'm real close to sending it to NECG for irons but am kind of facinated with this Brockman option. I'm not even sure they can supply the bases for my Mauser action (the website is a bit confusing regarding anything but model 70 bases) but if they do offer the bases on a custom basis, I'd only have to have the front sight installed. My question/concern is whether or not these Peep bases require a certain front sight or whether they have enough adjustment to be work with any decent front sight. I sent them an email but haven't heard back yet. Anyway, just wondering if anybody has actually used these bases and what the thoughts are. Thanx.
Model 70 is the only one they catalog. Call them. For a front sight, I really like that NECG. Don't buy a blade, just order the plastic "test sights" from XS Sights. Go to the range and start shootin' and whittling. When you get done, measure what you have and order the appropriate height "white-stripe" FS from XS.

The NECG takes their proprietary "front load" blades. I believe XS's are standard dovetailed? I suggest confirming with Brockman if they will make you the base/sight. Once confirmed, send them your rifle and have them install it along with the NECG Masterpiece front sight that is adjustable. I have a couple and they are fine sights. Otherwise use the same front sight with Talley bases and their QD peep sight. My two bits.
