recently bought a 3-12x56 meostar for my 270. i had ordered a remington classic mcmillan stock a few months ago that probably wont get here til february or march but was wondering if i should have considered the hunter stock with the monte carlo cheekpiece since ive got a bigger scope. right now i have a 50mm scope that works with dnz low mounts and i think the 56 will work with mediums. just wondering if those monte carlo style stocks help out over the remington classic
Three mm is 1/8".
Get the stock you like then put one of these on it. You can adjust the height and it's soft, it feels better against your face under recoil than a hard stock comb. I've got them on several of my rifles and they work great.

If you get a stock with a monte carlo then you can't adjust it if it doesn't fit exactly right or you change scopes, plus they're just flat ugly.

I use the Beartooth's as well as stock packs.

Not a huge scope but to get a proper cheek weld for sitting position target shoots I had to build up the stock so far I couldn't pull the bolt. This worked for me.

KTI Ind. $25 sans hardware, $8.00 for hardware at ACE.

I have one of the Beartooth packs. I don't like/use it. The idea is great, but for my application I needed all the inserts, and that was SOOO tight that it was nearly impossible to install and adjust, and shortly the foam pieces were permanently compressed. I'd love to blame the POS Savage tupperware stock, but it wasn't its fault (the cheap 'camo' finish was easily rubbed off in the process, though).

I now use a much more easily-adjustable item from Voodoo Tactical:

And a somewhat similar item:

The Voodoo Tactical item is a nicer one, but the other also works well.

Good luck!
Or if you only need some height the Triad Tactical Stock Pack works pretty good:

You could machine off some barrel shank to lower the scope. Don't laugh even Dave Miller Co. has done it. If done properly it looks like part of the rifle's normal features.
thanks for the suggestions guys. i think i can use medium dnz mount with this setup so hopefully cheek weld will be ok
