"If you want the best binoculars, you need to get [Leica]!!"
then, for further clarification: "L-I-C-A, LICA!"
lol had a guy explain to me how the RECTAL in a scope works.
I had a guy tell me how accurate his Weatherby Samoa was last summer...
Around here when people have a few dollars for a good scope they buy Lee-oh-polds.
"If you want the best binoculars, you need to get [Leica]!!"

Just curious, but are you saying he pronounced it wrong or just spelled it wrong?
lol had a guy explain to me how the RECTAL in a scope works.
Well at least he knows you look into the REAR of the scope.
I thought it was recticle. At least that's how I've heard it.

If you go to the countries where the 1st and 4th are made,
they aren't going to have a clue what you're saying and thus why I asked the OP where he was going with this.
They are pronounced "LI-Kah" and "Svor-off-skee
I've had countless people tell me it is supposed to be Lou-pold but it seems 90% of the people in my area say Lee-uh-pold. I have one of those LICAs on my digital camera.....
The local gun shop in my town was telling me about "Swavarski" lol. This was awhile back and I had to go home and google the name to make sure I hadn't been mispronouncing it the whole time.

Ask for a "Loo-pold" here and you will get a blank look, here they are pronounced "Lee-a-pold".
Doesn't mean we are right though.

Around here they spring for a Bushnell Trophy 6-18x382mm instead of a Bushnell Banner 6-18x382mm to put on their $800 rifle.

Yes, I have heard "lap-you-ah" as well.
Years ago I asked a guy at Bass Pro if I could look at a Sako 75 and pronounced it Socko. He said "a what'? I said a socko 75. He looked confused and suddenly said Ohhhh you mean a SAKE-O.
I said Yes, that's it! At least I got to look at the rifle.
On a visit to the Sako plant many years ago, they informed one of the members of the group that a SAKE-O was a watch made in Japan, that what THEY made was a SOCKO rifle.
They also pronounce 'Lapua' as JStewart showed - Lap-wa.
The Tikka brand name is actually a 'conjunction' of the actual name of the company. The folks at Sako told us that the word 'Tikka' means woodpecker. They ran ads in Scandinavian countries that the 'Tikka goes in the same hole every time' (ie. the woodpecker always hits the same hole.)

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/20...eiss-the-correct-way-to-pronounce-lapua/My first stumbling block: pronouncing the name of her Finnish ammo sponsor/supplier. Turns out Ive been putting the accent on the wrong syllable. Like everyone else I know I said Lah-POO-ah. Nope. Its LAH-poo-ah. So now you know.
We have a fella here in town that calls Nikons-Kneekons and the Browning Citori a Sigh-tori

The factory rep is wrong. Any time a person has an opportunity to use a Star Wars reference but chooses to go some other direction, they are in the wrong.
Lee-Uh-Pold. To pronounce it otherwise is to be declared elitist or demonstrates that a person watches too many hunting shows, at least that's the story in some of the circles I run.

So you'll all know, in AL the correct pronunciation is Loop-hold...one of the few words here, aside from Moma or trains or prison or trucks, that are not pronounced with 3 syllables...

Yeah, it's hard for us Rednecks and Cajuns to keep with with Germans, Finnish, Swedish and their ways of talking.
I kinda like our's best...

The spokesman sounds like a Brit. and you know they don't speak proper English.
Yeah, those Brits sure can't speak English...
Dr. Ken Howell, IIRC, was over there and said "lah-pwa" or very close to that, was the way it sounded to him.
I almost hear an "a" between the "p" and "w", but not quite.
DF
Edited to add, the more I listen to that piece by the Brit, the more I hear the "a". So, somewhere between lah-pwa and lop-awah, almost jumping over the "a", two syllables, not three.
