I got in on that sale of Cabelas scopes made by Meopta a few months back. As I was looking through the last flyer I got, noticed the scopes in the $700 range were advertised as being made by Vortex. Is Cabelas changing their manufacturer or are they just using different manufacturers for different price points, and there just happens to be an over lap at that price point?
That is interesting since Meopta did actually make the scopes and vortex is just a marketing company with the exception of the new amg scope they ate actually making. I would think cabelas would cut out the middle man. They are classic for that
Vortex is "making" some binocs for Cabelas now too.
I've looked at the one that is being made for them by Vortex... and then the Vortex Version... the Vortex name one, is a little spendier.... but it seemed to not have corners cut to drop the price...
Wouldn't surprise me. Years ago, I am almost 100% certain that Sightron (or the company manufacturing Sightron) was making their high-end house brand.
Sounds legit with Cabelas shutting down their optics factory and all.

Cabela's has never had an optics factory, they are just a
brander, with someone else building optics they put their name
on.

I think that was sarcasm

That is quite an accomplishment since the Cherokee didn't have princesses. grin
There is nothing wrong with Cabela's optics, they usually
choose wisely.

Meopta, has built scopes and binoculars for them and
many others, they are an OEM mfr.
Vortex is also a brander, and they have their optics made by other companies, mostly China, and some other Asian countries.

I am just trying to point out a few things.

Exactly. One of my pet peeves. When I hear someway say that it lets me know instantly the person is a total fraud or incredibly ignorant.

Another myth. Most of their scopes come from the Philippines(Diamondback and Viper), not China(Crossfire II), Japan(Razor and maybe a couple of Viper models) and the one Razor model made here.

Yeah, but the Blackfeet did--my great-grandmother was one. grin

From a not very well known branch of the tribe in New Mexico I bet. One thing I've never been able to figure out with Indians. You hear about princess's but I've never heard of an Indian queen. Except for the queer brave who asked the chief to loan him a couple of bucks until payday.

What is the definition of manufactured vs. assembled ?

Manufacture - make (something) on a large scale using machinery.

Assemble - fit together the separate component parts of (a machine or other object).

Well Farmboy wasn't born last night.
Cabela's was having a sale a couple of years ago on a 2.5 x 10 x 50 w/30mm tube. I think it is an "Outfitters Series", seems like a good scope so far.
Meopta makes the Euro series scopes / binoculars for Cabelas. The Cabelas "Intrepid" line of binoculars and scopes is made by Vortex - backed by the Vortex warranty (according to cabelas website).
