I don't have any higher end mag scopes and was wondering what you all thought of this specific scope (not any specific reticle). I have a chance to buy one LNIB non-illuminated model at a good price locally and was thinking of picking it up just to add it to the stable in case I ever needed some nice glass with such a power range. What's your experiences, and what do you think of this scope as compared to others in its class/price range?

Thanks,
Tall

Can't speak directly to the VX6 3-18x44 itself. I've looked thru one or two and was impressed.

I DO own the VX-6 2-12 and again, I'm impressed. Some will say the 'clicks' on the elevation turret feel a little 'mushy'. They don't bother me. When turning the dial I can feel the clicks and a slight audible confirming the click. I don't need an audible click loud enough to hear across the room. If that's what you want, buy a NF or Vortex. For what little spinning of the dial that I've done with this scope, I can say that its seems to track well.

Now . . . if I were to do it all over again, I'd go with the VX-6HD. Not necessarily because of the HD glass - it IS nice- but more so for the for the ZL2 feature. Two turns of the dial with a zero-stop versus one of the VX6, as the rifle I have it mounted on IS capable of using the full 2 turns.

As always, your mileage and opinion may differ.

I have two of them in the CDS version and like them.

I also have VX-6 2-12 and like that one too.

WiFowler has a great point on the ZL2 feature but you will pay a lot more for the HD version probably.

Been some very good buys on the non-HD versions the past 6 months.

I sent my vx-6 in to Leupold, and for I believe $90, you too, can have the ZL2 dial installed.

Good to know and worth further investigation.

I have 3 of them and would buy more. No issues and solid performance on my 7mm mag, .300 WBY, and 25-06ai.

Extremely pleased with my VX6 3-18x44. I sent it back to Leupold and had a standard duplex installed in place of the fine duplex it came with. Glass is as good or better than my NXS.
Would not hesitate to buy another.

I have two VX-6 3-18X50 'scopes - one on a long range prairie dog rifle and one on a game rifle. Both have performed exactly as they should mechanically and optically.

I have a need for another and will buy the VX-6i 3-18X44 model.

Optics are good enough that I rarely zoom all the way up when shooting prairie dogs; many shots 200 to 300 yards with the 'scope set at 8X. My last game animal with the other rig was a 220 yard shot on an antelope that dropped where he stood; 'scope set at 10X.

18X is very nice for 100 and 200 yard load development.

I have two of the VX-6 3-18's.....one 44mm and one 50mm, both with the windplex reticles. Great glass and the tracking of the CDS has been very repeatable. BUT, I just tried out the new VX-5HD 3-15x44 with the impact 29 moa reticle (leupold scope # 171716). I prefer the Christmas tree dots to spinning turrets, just to get rid of the "mechanical" aspect. In my mind, an etched reticle is much more repeatable than a turret, and one less thing to have doubt/concern about. Now, if I could only do the same with the "carbon unit", behind the stock!!! BTW, I was shooting 4" groups with it @ 500 yds and about 10" groups at 800 yds (10" in wind drift error, max vertical error was within 6-8"). I like it so much, I ordered 2 more today! Andy 3

Andy3,

When you get them, would you compare them on some kind of line chart or text, please. I am curious if the new ones have glass as good or better than the older ones.
