Noticed on the SWFA site today VX-1 and VX-2 were on sale and noted to be discontinued. Called to check and also to ask some questions about the SS 6x42. Was told that Leupold has discontinued these models. SWFA has VX-1 3-9x40 for $149, I think. A recent flyer from Natchez also had low prices on these same models.

Anyone know what's going on? New models coming out or what? If this has been discussed, I missed it.
VX3 is now the VX3i you gotta assume the old VX3 tech/ glass will trickle down to be 2 and the 2 will trickle down to the 1 or something...
How is the nomenclature gonna work? They already went from "VXII" to "VX2", so where do they go next? "VXTOO"?

Oh gawd, don't give 'em any ideas.............

For whatever reason, almost all of Leup's advertised "set" prices of their scopes have gone down in the last few months. Even the 3i's. I just figured sales had fallen off so much since the election that Leup had allowed dealers more leeway. Apparently not everybody has caught on to this because used Leups are selling for as much as new ones in many cases...........

Is there a difference in the glass between the two? I thought it was manufacturing changes rather than any improvement. I can't see any diff between my 3 vs 3i.

I think its Leupold seeing market share slipping away. Of the last 6 scopes I've purchased only 1 was Leupold.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This.

Of my last five scopes, only one was a Leupold.
I've bought two, but also a SWFA and a Tract Tekoa that was heavily discounted. Now I've won a third and am hoping my luck with them holds. I like 'em, but I'm willing to go elsewhere if I have to.

What I'd really like is for them to start taking the "issues" seriously.

They may or may not be losing market share but the sales of everything that shoots or related has declined significantly this year. Practically every major gunmaker has reported sales of by as much as 40%.

I was looking at VX-3i's on SWFA today and noticed that many of them are being discontinued also? Hard to make sense of Leupold these days. I miss the days of their stone-reliable Vari-X 2 3-9x.
Maybe SWFA isn't going to carry them anymore. If Leupold is cutting the price, perhaps the margin has gone down, or maybe they simply don't sell. Also, if there is another upgrade coming, retailers would want to clear them out before the "new improved" ones hit.
Just a casual scope guy here who doesn't follow all the changes in optics, but I gotta wonder if all is well at Leupold?

The past 6 months I've sent the same scope back 3 times. The obvious problem was not fixed the first two times, but they got it the last time.

I have called a couple times over the past week and in both cases the wait time was at least 20-30 minutes with 10-15 people ahead of me before I could talk with someone. The wait in the past was usually less than 5 minutes.

Leupold told me the wait time now for a custom CDS dial is 8-10 weeks! Hell, the first couple I ordered only took a week or two max with part of that wait due to shipping. The guy on the phone told me it was because the CDS was was so popular....

I dunno, maybe they are busy as hell?
Just picked up a VX1 3-9X40 LRD for $170 out the door.
That's a heck of a piece of glass, sub 2 bills.
^ Where did you get that?
how about this deal ?

Wow. I’ll vouch for seller, go in there brick and mortar store all the time in Dothan.
Same eBay seller has VX-2 3-9x40s on sale for $187.99 shipped TYD.
Well that 139 for a VX 1 was too good to pass up. Just ordered one.
Has it actually been determined they are actually discontinued? I see sellers mark items as discontinued when they simply don't stock the item anymore.

How about VX None?

From 1970, Leupold was always my first & only choice. Began to really get discouraged with them in the early 80's.

Once I was introduced to Swarovski I have not purchased any other brand. That was 8 scopes ago.
Per a Leupold tech today: The VX1 and 2 ( and maybe others) are being replaced with newer models. He would not give out any details about model numbers, etc. Said they will most likely be introduced at the Shot Show in 2018. When I called, I was number 52 in que, left a call back number and got called a little over two hours later. I asked about upgrades to the FX II line and got no info.
