I am in the market for a 3-9 x40 ish scope with an illuminated Reticle for Deer hunting.
Something for $300.00 Max, Preferably less,,good eye relief, simple Duplex reticle.
Set and forget ,no dialing.

Been Killing deer for over 48 years with non illuminated scopes
Eyes aint as good as they used to be though !!

Would appreciate some recommendations from those that use them.
I think that may be a tough order to fill. I'm not even sure if there is anything available with illumination at that price point that isn't along the lines of Barska/BSA/etc. Have you looked into heavier reticles? I'd much rather an unilluminated #1 or #4 with decent glass than a cheap scope with illumination.

Edit: Vortex may have something?
Yes I have tried the heavier reticles, dont like them.
I like the regular duplex although am illuminated mil dot Reticle might work as well.
Look at a Sig Sauer Whiskey3 with the Hellfire recticle.Camofire has a 3-9x40 for about $180 for the next hour or so.
I just remembered the Burris E1. I'm not sure what they sell for but they may be worth a look.

Doug's clearing these out for $130. I bought a 2-7 for $100. Only sighted it in, but that was accomplished without any drama.

4 1/2" of eye relief.

Not much of a risk. Lifetime warranty. Buy two!
I bought one of the 2X7 Hawkes also. I figured there was not much to lose for $100. I haven't put it on a heavy kicker but it seems like a decent scope. Thinking of trying on a Ruger Ranch 450 BM as a bear set up over bait.

I have scopes with illuminated reticle, yet I’ve never found that I needed them even at last legal shooting time.

I agree for the most part, but find that the ones with an illuminated dot at the center draw my eye there, especially on a fast shot up close, even in broad daylight. Got to be careful to keep them dialed down too, so as not to overwhelm the view. I also like green better than red, but that's harder to find.

The glass-etched dot in the 8x56 Hawke I just bought is nice. The dot is very visible on its own, and the rheostat lets you dial it to the exact brightness you want. Rings to mount it on my No. 1 will be here tomorrow. Then I can find out if the scope itself is any good.
They would be good for pig hunting, they are black most of the time.
I had one cheap illuminated reticle scope. I bought a rifle that had it on it. Sold it for about $30 and I warned the guy of what I thought of the scope. He bought it anyway.

(I didn’t like it.)
I normally wouldn't care either but like hanco's black pig, a black bear coming to bait at last light may be hard to pick up...at least that is what I hear! I think the 1X4 Doug is showing might be just the thing. : )
I used a cheap BSA on 2 Bear hunts over Bait. Had it on a 336 35 Rem. Worked great for the hunt. I was 25yds from the Bait. The lighted crosshairs did help. I have a Sig Whiskey 3 illuminated on a AR-10 I will be taking Hog hunting in April. I will let you know how it works.

Take a look at this. I like weaver scopes for their reliable internals.
A 3x-9x-40 Burris Fullield I with illuminated Plex should fit the requirements
Well I raised my price limit a bit and ordered Leupold Mark AR Firedot green TMR reticle 3-9x40
https://www.leupold.com/reticles/reticle-firedot-g-tmr-illuminated-129

Close enough to a regular duplex, has the illuminated green dot that can be adjusted and used in bright daylight If I want to.
I am really looking forward to receiving it.

Did not pay Leupolds retail price though, bought mine for a little less than $400.00
Nice Solid Scope, but you could have bought a VX-R for the same money.

I got it for $351.00 ,I dont have a problem seeing deer in the fields 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after sundown with Leupold VX1 3-9x40 scopes but having trouble seeing the reticle against
the deer due to a botched cataract surgery and just older eyes in general.
This scope is supposed to be the equivalent of a VX2 from what I have read so that will be fine .
I looked at your scope in the classifieds but did not really like the circle type of red dot on that particular model
Also think I will like the Green dot of this scope better than the red dot of the VX-R.
I have this scope mounted on my 6.8 ar. Very nice for the $300 I paid for it off of the sample list at SWFA. I haven't used the illumination yet though. When I carried it I shot deer at mid day. Go figure.

My thoughts too, unless you live somewhere where night shooting varmints is legal, maybe right at dusk/dawn deer hunting?
