Man that's tempting........
We've got 1 more of the 40054's and a few of the 40049's at the moment
Do they both measure in yards? What is the range on the 403 model?
Can a guy wait and register it with Leica closer to hunting season, or do they go by date of purchase? The only reason I'd consider one of these is that you (Doug) are there to back me up.

Yes, they both measure in yards.
They are both 2000 yard models
You should register when you buy as they know when we buy them as they are tracked by serial #. If you have any issues we will be here to assist you.
I ordered the HD-B. Thanks
Doug are you able to sell and ship Leica geovids to Canada still?
Is the #40049 worth the extra money?
The 40049 is the HD-B version which offers more than the HD-R:
Using an array of built-in sensors, this electro-optic measures the ambient atmospheric conditions as well as the shooter's angle relative to the target. By compiling data from the laser rangefinder and environmental sensors, the ballistics computer will calculate several values that can help improve shot placement.
Leica's Advanced Ballistic Compensation (ABC) technology combines temperature and air pressure readings with rangefinder data, zeroing distance, and user-defined ballistics curve to calculate ballistic compensation values. To maximize the accuracy of compensation values, the Geovid HD-B allows the shooter to input their rifle's zero distance and select a ballistics curve corresponding to the chambered round. The HD-B is pre-loaded with 12 ABC ballistics curves for various calibers and weights, and alternative ballistics curves can be stored and uploaded using the included microSD card. An in-view LED display allows the observer to view the calculated ABC values without taking their eyes off the visual scene.
Advanced Ballistic Compensation
Equivalent Horizontal Range mode calculates horizontal distance to target
Point of Aim mode displays the holdover compensation in centimeters
Impact Point Correction mode calculates elevation adjustment in MOA / MRAD clicks
Inclinometer measures the shooter's angle of inclination relative to the target
Barometer and thermometer measure ambient atmospheric conditions
Zeroing distance is programmable in 100 yd / m increments
12 pre-loaded ballistics curves corresponding to load caliber, type, weight
Alternative ballistics curves can be stored and uploaded using the microSD card
ABC values are derived from the set zeroing distance and ballistics curve, atmospheric readings, target's angle of inclination and measured distance
If you're a techy guy that will take advantage of all of these features then yes it pays. If you're a "set it and forget it" kinda guy then the HD-R is the way to go
Thanks for the detailed reply Doug. Which ones are in stock now?
Do the 40054 factor in angle?
Do the 40054 factor in angle?
The Leica Geovid HD-R 10x42 typ 403 binoculars provides ranging information for both distance and angle within .2 seconds using the Advanced Rifleman's Rule geometric calculation to determine the EHR distance for correct hold over, turret adjustable, or drop down reticle aiming point. Other features include an open hinge design, accurate measurement range, actuation button on right hand side, maximum optical performance, lightweight magnesium body, non-slip rubber armoring, Perger Porro prism system, and simplified functions and menu with auto-brightness control.
Thanks for the detailed reply Doug. Which ones are in stock now?

Well, I officially folded like a lawn chair. After my repeated "I'm gonna keep my binos and RF separate" ramblings, I went against everything I stand for and ordered the Geovid's from Doug, the 40054's. I have SV's, a separate RF, and now these incoming. We'll shall see I guess.
it's ok...... I've come back to geovids 3 times...been very happy the last 2 years with them ( type 403 HD-R)..., geovids it is.

I think you'll like 'em JGRaider. I believe using Geovids has made me much better at estimating distances - when I'm glassing with them I frequently play a game with myself whereas I first estimate the distance with my eyes and then range it to see how close I am.
Well, I officially folded like a lawn chair.
I did as well as the price was great on them but so far I’m pretty pissed on the whole deal.
I ordered almost mine 2 1/2 weeks ago, my credit card was immediately charged and I still haven’t seen them yet. Not sure what the delay is and don’t feel that I have been told the real story on these 😡 I called a week ago to inquire and spoke to Neil who said he had no idea when my binos would ship.
I was under the impression that these were actually in stock and ready to go but at this point I am guessing that isn’t the case. I just wish I had been told that going into it!
Hopefully they will shop soon as I have hunts coming up but so far I’m pretty sour on the whole deal, hopefully everybody else has better luck then I have had actually getting your binos delivered!
Maybe I’m just being pissy but almost 3 weeks wait on product the website claimed was in stock and zero communication seems excessive.
This sounds like deja vu, except that mine took 2 months to get to me after processing payment, due to a serial number mixup. Here’s the deal: these demo Leica units are not “in stock” at CL, they are in stock at Leica USA. CL has them drop shipped from Leica once you order and pay for them, so the shipping isn’t directly in CL’s control.
Hopefully my Geovid gives me years of faithful service, and is worth the significant hassle I went through to get it in my hands. I hope the same for you.
Doug,
What's the difference between the 40438 and the 40073 other than the external color scheme?
By all accounts they appear to share identical HD-B Edition 2200 specs.
I am a Swaro guy. Guess I bought the wrong BRAND!!!! I bought mine on May 27th. Credit card was charged on May 29th. Still have not received them or got a tracking #. I was told they are waiting for eyecups and neck straps from Lecia. No full disclosure from Cameraland. It will be the last time I order a pair of Lecia's. If they are not here next week I will call and cancel my order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve heard from a few other guys who ordered within days of myself and no one has them in hand yet outside of ‘Stick who returned his. At the time of my order I was told they would ship within a few days, crickets since......
I’ve called twice and merely been told only that there were unforeseen delays in shipping but no details or estimated ship date. Other guys who pm’d me after my initial reply report they weren’t informed of any delays at time of order (nor was I) but in calling to check on order status were told that the accessories for these are not available so they are delayed.
Several posters here and on a few other boards I frequent are all waiting in limbo as I am.
I can understand delays in the process but it seems slightly disgenuous to advertise them as in house and ready to go if they are actually being drop shipped by the manufacturer and waiting for accessories.
I have had 2 private messages from other guys who have bought the Lecia 2200 HD-B from Camerland about the same time I bought mine. They have not received theirs also.
I ordered Model 40438 on 5/26 and they arrived on 6/11. It sounds like I may have lucked out. I did reach out to Doug a week after placing the order, who helped coordinate delivery around my travel schedule. I needed to be available to sign for them.
I will say that I have very little patience with that kind of marketing. If I am waiting a week before they are even shipped, I'll likely cancel out of the deal. I was under the impression they were in stock at CL.
Good afternoon gentleman,
The 40054's that were posted Friday will ship out on Monday directly from Leica.
The 40049's and 40438's that are on our web site marked "Accepting orders for July Delivery" are in stock and are awaiting the accessory items (caps, straps, rain guards and owners manuals) and will ship as soon as those accessories arrive.
It is not our intention to delay these shipments, however, we want your unit to arrive to you complete.
We have Leica ship these directly for us to save a few days of them shipping to us first.
I will look into the difference tomorrow about the 40073 and 40438 as I cannot figure that out either
Doug when I called to order my Lecia's 40049's I was told they were in stock and would ship in 7 to 10 days. Then I called and was told waiting on the accessories from Lecia. No one ever told me I would get them sometime in July. So when does the warranty start? The day my credit card was charged or the day they are shipped?
Please PM me your name and ship to address so I can look into your order tomorrow.
Right now we are expecting July delivery (This was posted a week or so ago) I know some orders shipped this past Friday, you might have been one of those.
The warranty starts after it's shipped and if you ever have any issue I am here to take care of that for you. No worries

I am in the same boat as GunAddict. When I paid on 06/07 for a pair of 40438’s per our previous pm’s, I was told they would ship within 7 days. I don’t rightfully remember if i spoke to you or Neil at that time. I’ve spoken to Neil twice since then and still have no resolution as to when my pair will ship nor was I ever told their was a delay for accessories. My order was placed prior to the July delivery note on the website.
Per my pm last night, please advise ASAP that my order is indeed for a pair of 40438’s and the expected ship date for them.
Like a fool I sold both of my other pairs of binos to swing these and I need them ASAP to scout for my upcoming hunts.
The 40049's and 40438's that are on our web site marked "Accepting orders for July Delivery"
This was not on your website when I ordered mine.
I want to follow up on my previous posts. I have been in contact with Doug and all of my concerns were addressed to my satisfaction. In fact at this point Doug has went above and beyond to get this fixed for me quickly when the delay isn’t in his shop but with Leica directly and it’s appreciated greatly.

What he said.
Thanks Doug
Thanks guys. I know the delay is frustrating (for us as well), however, these are amazing units and very worth a little wait.
We are working closely with Leica to fill these orders as quickly & completely as possible
I ordered one of the HD-R units Doug had for $1099. I can't remember the exact days, but I received my unit within 7-8 days. The binocs seemed to have an issue on the display so I changed the battery and still had the issue (fading out, trouble reading past 8,900 yards) So I contacted doug and he had a response and resolution plan for me within the day. I have sent them back to Leica last week and waiting for them to address as communicated thru Doug.
Doug and CL have been awesome during this purchase and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Hopefully me new Binocs will not have the issue with the lazer/display.
I will look into the difference tomorrow about the 40073 and 40438 as I cannot figure that out either

Doug,
Did this fall through the cracks?

I reached out to my Leica tech rep but did not hear back. Not sure if he is traveling or not. As soon as i hear back I will post
The 40073 is green and he 40438 is black, only difference
Mine shipped today. I'm really looking forward to getting this thing a wringing it out. Got my fingers crossed it's as good as everyone says it is. If glass is as good as reported, and if I can get reliable ranges out to 1000 or so in any weather condition, I'll be a happy camper.
Which model did you get, JG?
My Edition 2200 regularly hits trees to almost 2000 m, and rock faces to 2085 m. Haven’t had much of a chance to hit animals with it yet. The Geovid outranges my Sig Kilo 2200, as far as sheer distance goes.
I got one a few months back from Doug. It was an upgrade from the one I bought maybe 10 or 12 years ago from Doug. Always loved the glass and there is no eye strain even after a full day of glassing. I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I got this one:
Leica Geovid HD-R Typ 403 10x42 Rangefinder Binoculars #40054 I know diddly squat about any of them, but I elected not to get the one with the fancy ballistic info stuff.
I have had my geovids for a couple of years and they rock. I use them hunting about 3 to 5 days a week and they have been very tough, and I have had no issues. I have mine programmed in mils and the numbers it gives me at distance are always spot on. Not close, spot on. And the glass is excellent, as expected. Buy them and use them with confidence.
The thing to realize with rangefinders is the question is absolutely not about accuracy... the question is yes/no; did you get a reading?
If you got a reading and the square/crosshair/dot was in the right spot the number will be impossibly correct. The problem is when the unit fails to get a reading. The better the unit the more times it will get a reading.
On more than one occasion I have had a number of different units going at once and they produce virtually exact numbers every time... until they fail to get a reading.

That's what I meant when using the term "reliable".

Agree, but reliable means many things to many people.
Some settle for a reading every once in a while...
I remember getting the Leica 1200 many moons ago after a number of different units had passed through. I was ranging a pickup truck at my neighbor's house and I could range the off-side rear tire under the truck versus the near side. No big deal until you see that I am enough higher that the off-side tire is barely visible...
So I got the glass this afternoon, and just went down the road briefly to fiddle with it some. It's partly sunny, 99*. Glass is excellent, as everyone has said. The focus is on the slow side, which is what I prefer. It is easy to get sharp focus without overshooting it. You can nail it every time very easily. Targets were on the dull side....pump jacks, rooftops, metal buildings, a few cows and trees. I got instantaneous readings the first time, every time, from 200 out to just shy of 1200 yds. It was very quick to read. I like that. It is obviously a well built unit, no doubt, and ergos are great.
Question: Regarding the LED readout......is the brightness level adjustable, auto adjust, or what?
Mine arrived as well. Glass is superb, Ergos seem spot on for me and I was able to get a reading on the Indian bingo hall across the valley at 2916 yds. Granted it’s a huge building with lots of glass, weather was 63 degrees and slightly overcast.
So far I’m very happy with them
"Question: Regarding the LED readout......is the brightness level adjustable, auto adjust, or what?"
The LED is not adjustable
Question: Regarding the LED readout......is the brightness level adjustable, auto adjust, or what?
Did you adjust the diopter per the manual. Right out of the box I thought the readout was a little dim as well. After setting the right side diopter for my eyes the readout is much brighter and clearer. The readout is only present in the right lense of course.
After you tweak the diopter make sure you advise if it improves the visibility of the readout for you. When I first read the focus directions it seemed excessive but after doing it I definitely see an improvement on my unit. These are the first pair of binos I have ever owned that had a diopter focus for the right lense. I’m guessing it’s done for the same issue you are having, tweaking the readout to varying eyesight of owners.
Worked like a champ. I guess I should have read the directions.........Everything is in sharp focus now. The only nitpick I have that I mentioned to Doug is that the reticle and readout is slightly canted. It seems to be purely cosmetic, as it ranges well. I find the glass to be ever so slightly behind my 10x50 SV's, but I've found everything else I've tried to be the same. It's a very impressive unit so far in my very limited use.
How do you like yours?
I concur that the glass is just slightly behind a buddies EL’s but I don’t know that it makes a hill of beans difference in terms of my uses for hunting. The glass quality is certainly very nice, the built in range finder has been great to almost
3000 yds on buildings, ergos flat work great in my hands and so far I’m very happy with them.
I’ve got no complaints and foresee no need to upgrade any time soon.

What are your atmospheric’s like when getting 3K ranges on structures?
What are your atmospheric’s like when getting 3K ranges on structures?
I have done it 4 times now since they showed up Thursday. Temps have been 60-75, slightly cloudy/overcast skies. Now in all honesty it’s a huge building with lots of glass. Had it up in the hills watching elk this morning, temp 56 degrees, overcast sky and it read a bald rock face at 2330 yds and a single bull at just under 1500 yds though at that distance it may have been reading the 100’ + tree just behind him.
I haven’t had a chance to really wring them out but so far I have no complaints.
So how is everyone liking them?Just sold the older SLC ‘s and thinking of going with the Leica combo.
Doug when I look at your site it has two listed at $1499 - what is the difference?
Thanks
The 40049 is a 2000 yard unit and the 40438 is a 2200 yard unit, otherwise the same
I have the earlier Leica 10x42 Geovid HD-R Laser Rangefinder Binocular (40059) and am thoroughly happy for what I paid. I have not tried ranging past 1200 yds but that is way far enough for me. Optics are awesome and several guys convinced me against the open bridge. Dunno...😀 but I’m happy!
Any last thoughts on these before I pull the trigger?
You will wish you had done so sooner?

Guys You won't regret it. I use mine a lot. I know the distance for every p-dog. I use mine a lot Like 3 batteries worth and the batteries last a ton of times. Mine are the previous version but are the new shape and brighter led. Color blind so none of the big 3 older ones worked for me. I payed a lot more for mine but CL treated me very well.
Doug:
would you have one in your shop? I have my daughter in your area.
Thanks.
I am sorry these are in the warehouse in NJ, however, if you want us to bring one in for her to pick up we can do that for you. Just let me know
