Posted By: Old_Crab Meopta vs old Zeiss Conquest - 07/07/18
I really like my Zeiss Conquest (assembled in USA) of about ten years ago....
- Great glass
- Durable build
- Tracks very well

Now that Zeiss no longer markets that scope at it's very affordable prices, is there a competitor scope which approaches the Conquest quality level? (even at more money)
Meopta maybe? (if so, which model of Meopta)
Other?

Would like your thoughts as I am going to buy a spare scope for carrying along on long-distance hunting trips just in case I bang-up the Conquest by mistake.

Thanks in advance!
I've heard those USA sssembled Conquests were made by Meopta. I think you fill find the Meopta Meopro line very similar to the old Conquests. They look very similar. I have the two of the old 2.5-8X Conquests and recently bought a Meopta Meopro 6X that is fantastic.

Yes, the Zeiss Conquest was a Meopta made for Zeiss version of the MeoPro series
Thanks Scott!
Have a super weekend.
Sportman's Guide had the new Zeiss Conquest V4's on sale last month for $700. Maybe they'll run another sale soon.
Thanks for the validation, Doug.
Sure looks like I can’t go wrong with the Meopro, since I like the old Conquest.
We are running a sale on the MeoPro 6.5-20x50's for only $649.99

Good to know.
Thanks

Great price, Doug, but I will be looking for either a 6-power or 3-to-9ish, as I don’t shoot at game further than 400 yards.
(Even at 400 yds, would pass on the shot if the deer or elk is moving quickly)

I got a meopro 3-9x40 from sport optics for 349.00 with free shipping a few months ago, it may have gone up to 399 since then. It’s a great scope.

Do this. Doug is the man and he will definitely take care of you!

I have used the old Conquest 3-9x40, 2.5-8x32, and 4x32, the newer Meopro 3-9x40 (this model replaced an earlier Meopro 3-9x42 which was a contemporary of the older Conquest and which I have not used) and the MeoPro 6x42. In my use, the 6x42 displaced the variables. That said, I prefer the Conquest Z-plex reticle to the MeoPro M-plex, if you want a -plex reticle. It is a bit thicker, although not as much as the Leupold Heavy Duplex. I prefer the MeoPro No. 4 reticle to either -plex. Otherwise, the older Conquest and the newer MeoPro are very close.

Doug is the guy to set you up with a MeoPro.

I've got a Meopro 3.5-10x44 with a #4 reticle. Awesome scope..
Meopta doesn't currently offer comparable Meopro scopes to the Conquests I found appealing. Those being the 1.8 - 5.5 x 38 and the 2.5 - 8 x 32. Moderate magnification, 4" eye relief and not terribly heavier than a Leupold with better glass. But I'm good for now with the scopes I have on hand. Side nitpick: Be nice if Meopta would list their specs in both metric and imperial. I don't think in mm's and g's.

This is where I am, too.

Now, from another thread...

I think their Argos 2-10x40 - BDC 600 for only $199.99 is a slammin' value and a great scope.

Said scope looks similar to the old Conquest/Meopta: close weight, same big ocular. Doug, would you stack that 2-10 Argos up against the old 3-9x40 Conquest in image quality, low light performance, tracking, and/or durability? If so, it seems like you'd move a lot of 'em.

Thanks,

Old crab,

I’m not sure if he has any left but the Zeiss Conquest DL 3-12x50 that Doug at Cameraland had on clearance about a month or 2 ago is a phenomenal scope for the money. Think they were $650ish.

Meopta makes some really nice products as well. Good luck with your search.

We do still have the Zeiss Conquest DL 3-12x50 - #6 for $699.99

IMO, the Argos 2-10x40 is optically on par with a leupold VX-2 or Vortex Viper and is dependable and will track with no issues. I think the optics of the Zeiss conquest or the Meopta MeoPro would edge it out, however, the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 was never a $199.99 scope

OH, and we do sell a ton of them as the Argos scopes, for the money, are near impossible to best smile
Alright, I'm gonna give it a shot.

I tried to order it online just now, but the payment screen was wonky. I'll call the store tomorrow.

I'm thinking I'll put it on a .300 WM that currently wears a 3-9 Conquest, & shoot the box with each. I'll only be able to try 1 dot on the BDC for the Argos, but I'll go ahead & try that out, too.

It'll be fun finding out if I like it as much as that Ares spotter.

Thanks,

FC
