I’m looking at one that was apparently made in Germany and was wondering if they are a good scope?

S&B is one of the premiere manufacturers of alpha optics. What specifically did you want to know?

Excellent scope. Bright image, tracks and maintains adjustments great. Heavy,large scope with somewhat short eye relief. Have had a few and would strongly consider one again.

The guys wants $700 Canadian for it. Right now I’m using a FX-3 6x42, would the S&B be much of an improvement?

Would it weigh much more than my Leupold?

Take a look at the Meopta 6x42. A little cheaper; still a superb scope.

They are both light.
Bender reticle normally etched in glass not wires, easy on your eyes and a couple of the S and B reticles are very sweet. Love their A7 in the 6 x 42.

You may not notice much difference in good daylight, but when the light is low or the conditions bad, there is no comparison. The S&B will have superior resolution and provide a vivid, detailed image that is a significant step up from the Leupold.

More reliable than my Leupold?

Hard to say because after all scopes are manmade. The probability of a S&B failure is very very low. I am kicking around the same scope for my 30-06 .

Listen to this guy. I just picked up a S&B Klassik 2.5-10x56 at the info Bobby gave me. Although not the scope your currently looking at, the glass is amazing.

I use both the FX3 and Klassik 6x42's and like them both. The FX3 is light, good glass, and GREAT user characteristics like eye relief/eye box....it's just super easy to get behind. The FX3's may take multiple shots to change point of impact on adjustments but once set I've not had any of them loose zero that I'm aware of. The Klassik is about a 1/4 pound heavier, has GREAT glass, but has shorter eye relief and is more finicky than the Leupold on how easy it is to get behind (but it's still good with a large exit pupil). The two Klassik's I have have been perfect in adjustments when sighting in.

Are we talking about the 1" or 30mm here, and does it matter much?

I was referencing 1" Klassiks in my post. I don't have any experience with the 30mm 6x42 Klassik.

Going price for either appears to be about $1279, except for an outfit called OpticsTrade, IIRC, who wants $799, but you have to wait a month. Pretty big difference, if they're genuine, and if they really will get you one.

30MM and 1279 is a good price for it . Optics Trade and I have not seen the ad might be selling a HUngarian made one which is a good deal since it is the same scope

I have one mounted on my BLR for a fall moose hunt.
Have the 4x and 1-6x42, great lowlight transmission.
