I'm setting up a Model 70 Carbine '06 as a loaner rifle for kids who need a rifle to use. I'm going to have a set up to mix and match between two different stocks and scopes. One set up for little kids with a cut down stock and .30-30 level loads and then a set up with a normal size stock and warmer loads for bigger kids. Does anyone have experience putting this scope on long action 70? I'd like to use Talley QDs if possible so they can practice with open sights as well.

I'm also under the impression the eye relief of this scope is sufficient for kids to use but if anyone as ideas for other scopes which would work I'm open to ideas. Scopes on the more compact-lower magnification end of things fit best with the mission of the rifle.
Not apples to apples, but I had a couple different FFIIs on a Savage 110 in 338-06 with no issues. They were a 2-7 and a 3-9 FFII. Eye relief is ok, but not quite as forgiving as a simple VX2. I don’t think it would be a problem.
Not enough eye relief for me on a long action. Go with a VX-2 or a Conquest if you can find one.
Not exactly the same, but I have several Burris C4 3-9x40's on long action rifles, including a M70. These scopes have similar eye relief to the FF II 3-9 and I have no issues, and I'm one who struggles to get scopes mounted back far enough to achieve proper eye relief. If you're talking about the FF II 2-7, that's a scope I can't make work due to eye relief and short tube length.
Good info guys! Thanks, you've saved me some aggravation. I'll try another scope, maybe a Leupold though I trust the newer ones less and less. Maybe an older fixed 4 or 6 is in order.
Don't like them much, but consider a rail for maximum flexibility.
I've had FFII (3x9) on long M70 s....I fail to see the problem ?
I fully agree with the VX2 suggestion, however, you're going to have to look hard to find a new one. Leupold, in their infinite wisdom, discontinued the line about a year ago. You can probably find some gently used pre owned on the interwebs.
A Burris doesn't have the easy eyebox of a Leupold, that's for sure, but it's probably adequate.

The Burris 2-7 is worse than their 3-9.

If you want the easiest scope to use with great eye relief, the Leupold M8 4x is the ticket.

Yep, plenty of VX-2s to be found. They can shove that Freedom line.
I have a couple VX-2's and a Freedom, kind of like the Freedom myself.
I had a Pre-64 30-06 Fwt with a FFII 3-9, used reg mounts, no issues with eye relief.
