Who still uses them on a primary hunting rifle? I have several on Savage 99, Marlin 336 and Husqvarna 4100 rifles and do not feel handicapped in the areas where I hunt. What about you guys?
Have a 4x compact (first version) on my 760 pump .35 rem. Had a reg 4x on my .243 RSI
Dollar for dollar, a Leupold 4x may be the best hunting scope in the world.
Okie John
I do. On a Ruger No1 in 458,45-70 , 375 h&H and a Ruger 77 tanger in 7x57 and a few others. Those went on those rifles when variables were suspect.
Same here. I have a bunch of them. I’ve yet to break one of them. Plus, they are dirt simple and seem to stay put once you get them where you want them.
I've still got two. I've got variable's up to10x and use them for target or varmint shooting due to aging eyes but the old M8 4xs are all I've ever needed on a deer rifle. They've worked fine for that from 20 to a little over 300 yards. They're also good to go on a long action rifle without having to use dog leg extended rings and the eye box (the lower power probably helps) seems to get you on target about as fast as you can get the rifle up.
Yes sir! I use a M8 4x33mm on a Ruger M77 RL Ultralight and a M8 4x28mm Compact on a Ruger M77 RLS Carbine.
I just bought a Higgins Model 50, that I put in a Model 51 stock. It came with a M8 4x33. I'll change the mounts out, but likely leave the scope for the foreseeable future. I've got an FX-II 4x on something, can't remember what now. Simplicity is good.
You have a near "fail-proof" hunting rig there, the only thing I would do to it is put on set of Weaver bases, a set of the old-school Weaver rings and a recoil pad to lessen the kick a bit.
Why do I recommend that? - I used an identical to yours set-up for my big game hunting outfit for many years, and it worked great for me.
edit to add - The Weaver rings are easily removed with a coin or even knife blade, return to zero with alternate tightening, and the Weaver bases are low enough to allow use of the open sights with the scope removed. - Old school but still Cool.

Kinda miss the little rig
I have one on my Remington 700 Classic in 35 Whelen. Hasn't failed me yet on the whitetails I've taken with it in Wisconsin.
i have one on my 45-70 guide gun.
Have one on my rebored 760 Rem in 35 whelen.
It has been there for years without fail!
I mounted one with the original post & duplex reticle on my Mannlicher carbine.
I also have one on a 99 Savage because it was the only scope I had that would work on it and have decent eye relief. 99s can be difficult sometimes in that category. Mine is a .243Win and I can shoot anything as far as I can see it in the woods. I don't feel a bit handicapped by a 4X on this rifle. I like the simplicity of a fixed scope.
I have one on my backing rifle, custom 700 in 308 Win. Great scope for typical hunting ranges.
Perfect optic for my old Winchester M-70 22 Hornet, an old Buds Dad still has one on a pre-64 30 Govt 06, the old Man has shot 220gr round nose bullets at everything for as long as I know them both.
