I have a BLR 81 .308 length action. It is steel not aluminum. I need a one piece scope base preferably in Picatinny style but would take weaver. The one I identified has bad feedback saying it was wrong for his bases and had to send it back. I suppose there are LA and SA BLR 81 bases? They are not identified as such on Graf's or Midway USA websites. Does anyone have actual data as to what I should order? TIA God Bless. Rusty

I looked on Midway and they list two Talley systems for the BLR81, the LW one-piece rings and the regular Talley bases that take their rings. Neither is Weaver or pic compatible, but they're good mounts. The regular Talleys will accept their QD rings if you need that feature.

Call Talley with the UPC codes listed by Midway and your rifle info to verify they'll fit. They've never given me bad info.

This forum is mainly for hating on Leupold. You didn't provide anything that could segue into Leupold hate.

I have a similar rifle. I don't think there is a pre-fit Picatinny for that particular model as I looked. The alternative as I recall was to have a base "custom" made which wasn't that expensive according to my gunsmith. I went with an old set of 2 piece Weaver bases and used a different scope than planned.

I thought BLR bases were the same as BAR bases, short/long?

Nope! AS I finally figured out there must be a shorter action than the 308. Maybe, without looking it up, a 223 etc. So the question is what actions are mated with what length actions? Is a 30-06 long, and the 308 is too????? I guess I should have asked first. I think there are magnum actions as well. So can someone fill us in as to how the various sized actions work and how they are named? TIA. Be Well. Rusty

I remember some years ago reading about how the. 30-06 action wasn't the long action, that the next size up was. I think it is the DGR crowd that knows/claims this.

There are short, long, and magnum

As I recall (!), the original 81 was steel, with a magazine that protruded from the receiver, and looked similar to mags for the Remington 760 and 742. Later ones went to aluminum receivers and more seemly magazines, and longer ones for standard rounds came out. At what points in time all this stuff happened and manufacture moved from Belgium (and possibly Portugul for assembly) I can't say, but I'm pretty sure the steel ones are European, or mostly so. Pretty sure the .223s are on the regular short action.

Always had a hankering for the old ones, though the triggers were said to be truly awful. Now, the take-down models are interesting.

EGW shows on their website they carry a one piece picatinny base for BLR’s. I’d call them. I’ve talked to them in the phone a couple of times and the people I talked to knew their stuff.
