I would appreciate some camera help
My Canon Power Shot S5is is causing more trouble than it's worth.....I'm in the market for a new one as they no longer support this machine
Things I like about it
1. good zoom
2 Uses AA Batteries
3. Takes good photos
4. easy to download to computer.
Things I don't like:
1. Focus manual is very difficult I don't get good detail on close up shots of such things as serial numbers on firearms.
Can someone direct me to a new camera?
I have a small Canon that has a rechargable battery. It is by far the best camera I've ever owned. If I buy another camera it will be a Canon. This is what they offer these days.

The day of good cameras using AA batteries is over. The best bet would be the Sony DSC-HX80. It's compact, has a 30x optical zoom, view finder, Zeiss lens, image stabilization and excellent close up shots like you mentioned. Give me a call to discuss this and other options
Bought a Sony mirrorless camera last fall from Doug's guy at Camera Land. It was the best experience I've had in buying a camera. I won't go anyplace else in the future. Looking to get another lens or two from them as things calm down.
They are great people to deal with!
I do thank each and every one for the reply.
My suggestion would be a FujiFIlm X100S. Excellent quality digital rangefinder, which can be found used for a reasonable price.

I do thank you for the advice but was able to find a Nikon that uses four AA batteries......one of my basic requirements as I often go for weeks at a time where electricity is not available...….but it's easy to stash a dozen AA batteries in a bag. It works great and under $300 with the card memory.
Good advice is,remove the batteries if your not going to be using the camera for awhile.Damn batteries leak and ruin the camera quickly.
Call Doug's brother Neil at Cameraland. He handles the camera side of the shop. Helped me alot when I bought a camera for my daughter and gave me a smoking deal.
