Got the above scope on a rifle I recently purchased. Already had a higher magnification scope I am putting on. Looking to sell and honestly don't know what to ask. Very good condition. I know the original owner, I'd say less than 100 rounds total through the rifle the scope was mounted on when he bought both brand new. I am not a Leupold expert and don't know the VX II vs Vari X 2 vs VX2 etc.
I’d start at $250
VX-2 is newer than VX-II which is newer than Vari-X II. Supposedly each generation was better. I’d guess it’s worth about $250, but seems like silver scopes are bringing a premium anymore because Leupold quit making them.

I paid about $280 for a silver VX-2 with slight ring marks last September. There is a silver VX-2 on eBay @ about $180 with four days left right now. I’d watch ebay a bit, that may give you the best idea of value.
If it's an auction, my method is to start at the lowest price I'm willing to sell for, or maybe just a touch lower to encourage the suckers. Set price? Whatever you think the market will bear if you're not in a rush. You can always go down if no one bites.

If you feel the rifle alone was worth what you paid for the whole package, you can afford to be a little generous. I never try to sweat the last dime out of stuff I sell, just a fair price for both parties. That way everybody can feel good about the transaction. Since I don't care for silver riflescopes, I can't say what it's worth to me.
The pre-2004 VX-II was NOT set up to accept the Alumina accessories, so I would place a slightly lower value on those versions.
I have a Vari-x IIc 3x9x40 silver in great shape, serial# has a Y prefix (1991 manufacture).

I would sell mine for $150, if you can get $250........good luck with that

Is this scope available? Can you send a picture? I’m looking for a quality scope to sit atop my older SS Savage. It has been hard to color match with the current models of grey scopes that match Ceracoat.

Thanks
Good luck matching that combo up. Silver anodized scope, SS rifle, and often nickeled "SS" rings. Trust me, it'll show.

OTOH, matte black scopes in either matte black or SS rings look pretty good on SS rifles, IMO. Just my notion; by all means have it your way.
Bout 250

Ha ha, that is pretty generous. I sold a Vari-x IIC a while back for $325.00 on ebay. Its not a matter of if he can "get $250.00" for his. Sometimes you guys crack me up... I will say the Vari-xIIc is a little more desirable and sought after than the VXII though...

The store that sold me this rifle for $500.00:

Didn't have a clue either..
Here's a vari-X-IIc 3-9X40 that is on Ebay right now. These guys sell a lot of harder to find rifle scopes:

Silver Vari-x-IIC 3-9x40

I don't think they will get their horrendous asking price out of this old Leupold, which is $469.99!!! This is the same scope buttanchor said he'd sell for $150.00. Someone should jump on that deal, because you can turn around and make some money on re-selling it. I had the same exact scope and sold it for $325.00 on ebay a few months ago:

This scope wasn't even listed for a day, before someone took it for the buy it now price. When the OP started this thread, I saw some VXII 3-9x40 silver rifle scopes for $299.99-$359.99, but now I don't see any on ebay. So that tells me they probably sold those old silver Leupolds for their asking price. There are guys that use and collect these scopes. Some prefer to use the silver scope on a stainless rifle, some don't. I personally like a matte black rifle scope for everything I use. I don't know if the OP sold his silver Leupy or not, but I'd suggest he listen to the guys that are saying it's worth at least $250.00. If it were in excellent condition, I'd personally list it on ebay for $300.00 and let the highest bidder take it...or sell it to someone here for $250.00.... Good luck to the OP, if he hasn't already sold it..
