Are these any good for deer hunting close range
Bhn of approx 10/12. Used on my Rossi 92 lever rifle
Appreciate any replies. Johnnyjr
In my opinion, no. I think you could kill a deer with it but their are better bullets out there.
Agree. When deer hunting with cast bullets there's no substitute for mass and nose shape (RN's don't cut the mustard as well as FN's or HP's). I would lean toward a minimum of 158 SWC, soft as I could get away with driven as fast as I could get away with.
I would listen to these guys & go with another bullet.
SWC feeding in a lever action?
WFN type with no shoulder maybe?
I'm in agreement with the others. I would not use a roundnose for deer hunting. I can't speak to the Rossi, but I have a 44 magnum Winchester 92 that I only shoot 255gr SWCs. They feed perfectly fine.
I had a Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag and shot only semi WC’s in it. They all fed perfectly, wouldn’t group for sheet but that was the gun, it wouldn’t shoot anything well. That’s why I said I HAD a Marlin 1894! :-) And I agree with gnoahhh’s post above.

Some do have trouble feeding a SWC. And I have nothing against the WFN for sure.
Yeah, as long as it has a wide flat nose that's really all that matters.
I shoot .38/.357's in a Martini single shot, quite a different beast from a Rossi lever gun so I can't speak to that issue. I have access to a Marlin 94 .45 Colt that feeds SWC's flawlessly and prints them nicely too.
My personal experience with SWC feeding in lever actions is zero, hence my question.
