Has anyone added either brake cleaner or carb cleaner to Eds Red as a carbon cleaner. Because I shoot a lot of cast bullets and some jacketed on occasion, I clean differently for each use. For the cast it is just ER but for the jacketed I usually furn a couple of patches of ER then go to Bore Tech +2 copper eliminater then hoppes for the carbon but wondered if anyone had added the likes of brake cleaner or carby vleaner to ER to take care of the carbon so an alternate patch of ER the BT would take care of the layering effect of the carbon and copper.

The Acetone in Ed's Red is what removes the carbon,if you use that in your mix you shouldn't have to add anything else.

For copper remover you don't need anything fancy plain old ACE Hardware 10% janitor strength ammonia either used straight or cut 4 parts ammonia to 1 part water or K-1 Kerosene will work great. Just use it like you would any other commercial made copper bore cleaner.

There is also a version of Ed's Red Plus copper remover you can mix up if you like.

I have been using ER for a number of years and forgot some of the basics.
I had left out the acetone as when I read the recipe years ago and some of the comments arround it there was suguestions that that the acetone could be left out as it was mainly for the likes of shotgun plastic wad fouling and it had a tendency to evaporate. It has always been my mainstay for my cast bullets but have started putting a few more jacketed through lately as well. Will add the acetone to my remaining 1.2 gallon and go from there. Might look into a batch of the copper remover variety as well - thanks for that res45
