The outfit I have been ordering bullets from has not filled my order in over a month.
I guess this was the nudge I needed to get started.
Got a big order in with Midway but was disappointed to find that the RCBS 45-270-saa mold is out of stock with no back order.
I could not find this mold available anywhere on the internet. Even EBAY was sold out.
This bullet shoots great in my Marlin and Blackhawk so I would like to keep using it.
Are there some different places to find this mold? Is RCBS on the way out?
Is there a similar bullet mold that folks like as well as the RCBS version?
Thanks.
I have an Accurate mold which is similar and casts cleaner than the RCBS 45-270-SAA. Check out Accurate molds.
Jim, Miha makes a similar mould. These are brass moulds made in Slovenia, that's north of Montana!! These are great moulds & they sell them on group buys on the Castboolits Forum. The same mould will usually make 4 different bullets, a solid, a small HP, a large HP & a Penta HP, all for about $137 for the 4 cavity.
If you'll PM me your address I might just send you some to play with.

Jim if you haven't purchased a mould yet & need bullets contact Harles Dawson. He purchased my business & has this mould.

Hey Creeker,
I didn’t know that you were no longer in the cast bullet business. Even though I cast my own, it was good occasionally to see what you were doing. Good luck to you. Oops! Didn’t mean to hijack the thread, sorry.
I had too many irons in the fire. Sold the bullet business & the firewood business & retired from my 40 hour job. Plenty of time to shoot now.
Priorities, sir....priorities!
Glad you're doing well.
The fellow I buy from apparently deposited the money he got from Pay Pal on the 6 of June.
Still no bullets.........
I guess its time to take the plunge!
Do it, Jim. It's a great way to spend a winter evening up there in the Great White North.
Works well as a pastime down here at the Tropic of Hades, too.
I've got the MiHec version of that mold. It's awesome. Does great in my Ruger Bisley, my old Knight BK92 in a sabot, and more fun that kicking a mean dog when paper patched and shot out of my #1 .45-70.
It was designed by Dave Scovill (I've got the "Handloader" where he discusses it's development).
It is the bullet that St. Elmer would have designed, had he not been given a weight limit that resulted in the 454424, that Lyman has spent the last few decades botching and butchering.
One sold today on ebay. Here's another one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/RCBS-45-270-SAA-45-caliber/183392196750?hash=item2ab306d88e:g:LuAAAOSwDyBbfMkH
