Have 1 lb of this stuff & looking for its purpose in life. Currently trying it in my .32 Winchester special carbine with a 170-grain cast RNGC. The 1st run was a bust but probably too low of a powder charge. This go around I'm loading it at 17.0 grains of power, so we'll see.

ANYONE HAVE THE PROPELLENT PROFILE ON IT FROM HANDLOADER MAGAZINE?

Do you own a magnum revolver? It's great for those calibers.

Otherwise I'm not much help, I looked at a 2003 IMR manual which I have, 32 W.S. isn't even in it, 4227 wasn't listed for .30-30.

Good luck with it.

Works good in the 300 blackout.

Very versatile powder- full strength loads in small cases and reduced cast loads in big ones. All the old Lyman manuals plus the current one lists a plethora of loads for 4227. I have four or five pounds of it and use it now and again. Think of it as fairly similar to 2400 and 4759, and a bit faster than 4198.

The 44th Edition Lyman manual shows .32 Winchester Special, no 170 grain cast bullet is listed but for a 184 they show a starting load of 16 grains for 1453fps, up to 24 grains for 2066fps. Hope this helps.

I use it for .22 Hornet sometimes, full strength loads, and .30-30, .30-40, .30-06 cast loads now and again. As long as my stash of 4759 holds out I don't have a big need for much of anything else in the .30's.

Roger that running 17.0 on this next round have 170 RNGC loaded up & 183 FNGC waiting in the wings.

I use IMR-4227 in 357 mag and 30//30 cast bullet loads.

In the 357 rifles, I use 12 grains for 185 grain cast bullets and 13 grains for 158 grain cast bullet loads.

In the 30/30, I use 19 grains for 180 and 188 grain cast bullet loads. This load shoots exact same point of impact as 25 grains of IMR-3031 with the same bullets.

What Velocity you getting with your 19 grains?

Can't help with your application but it's my go to powder in 480 Ruger, and am using it in mid-level 454 Casull loads, both with cast bullets.

My 17.0 grain loads of IMR 4227 with the old 160 grain Ideal 321317 RNGC bullet averaged 1543 fps & went into 1 hole @ 25 yards. It weighs 170 grains all sized, lubed & gas checked.

This was out of the 20" barrel of the Winchester 1894 carbine. That particular Ideal bullet was designed for the 32 Remington autoloading rifle but seems to run fine in my 32 Winchester Special.

I use quite q bit of it. As has been said, in heavy, large bore handguns and quite a bit in reduced rifle loads with and without a filler, such as, 8 X 56 Mannlicher/Schoenauer, 8 x 58RD, one load in my 8 X 57 with .318 groove diameter and I think one 9 X 57 load. Good and useful powder, well behaved. I've also used it in both my Schuetzen rifles, one an 8,15 X 46R and the other in 8,7 X 55R

I use it in .221 Furball loads, almost exclusively.

I've been using it since around 1976-77 in 357 Mag, esp for jacketed 140-150 grain bullets. One of my favorite powders Have used somewhat for 44 Spec and 44 Mag. Have found it works great along with Alliant 2400 for reduced cast bullet loads in my assorted military bolt guns (303 British, Mauser 8mm, 7.62x54 Russian, 30/06). I've even used Alliant Red Dot for reduced cast loads in these rifles. All three of these powders produce good accurate and reduced shoulder slamming loads.

Ive read that Hank Williams, Jr. likes 4227. He's a famous Colt collector, claims 4227 has a low pressure peak, can be used in 1st Gen Colts without damaging them. To me, it leaves unburned granules in loads that aren't pretty hot.

In my 24" .45 Colt Marlin Cowboy, it does really well with 300 gr. lead and cast bullets. Those loads are pretty warm and it burns very clean.

I use it to load light loads in my 45-70 gov. cause I have such a light Encore barrel. I seldom shoot it anymore however.

I use it for some of my 44 Mag loads.

Its probably no help to you, But it works good in my smokeless powder muzzle loader with 250 gr Hornady SST'S

It's a great powder in the Ruger 45 revolvers with 250-260 gr cast bullets, also a dandy in powder for the Ruger 480, I used 20 grs & a 370 gr soft nose cast to take my Idaho bull moose. It's probably the best powder for the Ruger 357 maximum revolvers with cast bullets.

If I remember right, I think it was 1775 with a Marlin 336 with a 24 inch barrel and 1675 with a Marlin 336 with a 20 inch barrel. It was a very accurate load for me.

The cast bullets I used were from a Lyman 311041 and a RCBS 30-180FN moulds. With the alloy I use, the 311041 bullets weigh 180 grains and the 30-180FN bullets weigh 188 grains. That is including Hornady gas checks.
