No luck for me on a desert bighorn tag.
El zippo for all 4 in my family. Im from CO, 55, and have been applying since the early 90s (when i could finally afford to put the $ up front) and still cant get a license in my own state. Speechless...
Grew up in CO. Drew the sheep tag in 82 and filled it. Drew the goat tag in 2001. Filled it.

I was luckier than a lot but the demand for tags were a lot less back then. When I got the sheep they were a "once in a lifetime" animal. I understand that has changed. The tag in CO that I always struck out on was moose.

Drew an archery sheep tag in 91. Didn't kill a ram. Drew again in 93 (with 1 PP!). Found a HUGE ram while scouting and spent the entire season chasing that mutha around the Sangre de Cristo's......... Didn't kill him either.

Knowing what I know now, I shoulda' just drew a rifle tag and be done with it........ cry
Last 6 years of stats:

2015 Number of 1st choice apps 11,186 number of ram tags 204 number of rams killed 110 11,186 apps divided by 204 tags = 55 years to get a tag for all
2016 Number of 1st choice apps 11,672 number of ram tags 229 number of rams killed 127 11,672 apps divided by 229 tags = 51 years to get a tag for all
2017 Number of 1st choice apps 12,708 number of ram tags 238 number of rams killed 137 12,708 apps divided by 238 tags = 53 years to get a tag for all
2018 Number of 1st choice apps 23,637 number of ram tags 244 number of rams killed 244 23,637 divided by 244 tags = 97 years to get a tag for all
2019 Number of 1st choice apps 16,845 number of ram tags 244 number of rams killed 244(odd they match 2018) 16,845 divided by 244 = 69 years
2020 Number of 1st choice apps 18,308 number of ram tags 230 number of rams killed 148 18,308 divided by 230 = 80 years to get a tag for all

Not looking good for thinking if you apply for 20 years that you have a smoking good chance for a tag. But thanks for the application fees along the way.
20 years and zilch. It really is ridiculous at this point...
Chances are better playing the Lotto. If you win, you could buy one of those Governors Tags or auction tags!
In 2020, the draw odds for 1st choice applicants were approx 1.25 percent. Then those successful 1.25 percent applicants went on to have a 64% success rate on the hunt. WIth the current numbers of applicants, it makes great sense to save and invest for a Dall sheep hunt vs donating that kind of money with those kinds of odds.
I honestly don't think premium tags should be available to nonresidents any longer. Goat, sheep, moose and antelope are already so hard to draw as a resident... kind of sucks to live here and compete with the whole world for a chance to hunt your own backyard
Nothing for me either, they were certainly happy to take my $100 to buy preference points in my own state though. Thinking I'm done doing that, I don't think weighted points are worth what they cost in the grand scheme. Colorado needs to go to a better system. Would be cool to see something like Idahos.
Yep, I never bought any once they started charging. Did shoot a sheep in 2000 and a goat in 2010. If I hadn't of done that would have just gone to Kodiak for a goat and probably Yukon for a Dall. They keep getting windfalls from Pittman Robertson funds but still need more money. Its odd. Lots of folks willing to pay for terrible odds, so let them.
I'm in the same boat as the rest of you, no tags for me or my son. I figure someone has to draw those tags, so might as well give it a shot, even if the odds are terrible. As a resident, it is still going to be a cheaper hunt than going out of state on an outfitted hunt, but the problem is drawing a tag before you're too old to go hunting anymore. My Dad, who is 81 now, gave up putting in a few years ago. He's not able to hunt anymore, but when he stopped he had 20 weighted points. That's a long damn time to wait for a tag.
Draw recap is out now. I'll give a warning out to those with a lot of weighted points...it'll make you sick.
That's my problem, by the time I draw I'll be too old to hunt sheep.
20760 applications, 266 tags. If no new applicants start applying, it will take 78 years for everyone to get a tag. LOL. I'll pass.
Welcome to the new age of sheep hunting. And yes, lots of us will apply for the rest of our lives, including me, and never get a sheep tag in any state....

I've accepted it but it'll be my dream still....

Do non-residents have the same draw odds as residents? I believe Idaho limits non-residents to 10% of the total tags available. I may be wrong though.
There are only certain units that have NR tags. NR can only apply in those units.

I killed a bighorn ram & mtn goat. Ram was in 1998, he was a 7/8 curl. Mtn Goat was a couple years later---nice billy. Since then I've been applying for desert bighorn with no luck. But for $7 application fee, I'll play-----You have to be in the game to win. Heck I play powerball when it gets over $200 million.
I killed a 8 year old ram with a bow in 2000 and on a solo goat hunt killed a nanny on a nanny tag in 2010. My odds at time on the archery tag were 1 in 6. I don't play powerball regardless of what amount it is. Odds get worse each year.
Struck out on goat and desert, and zip for the wife. I m’ve been pretty lucky having drawn a rocky in 2020 and Mtn goat in 2016. Just hope to draw another one at some point in the future.
