Looking for some off season fun and am looking at - Cross Oaks Ranch in Brady, TX. Anyone know anything about them?
I just looked at their website. Prices look high to me especially since you posted on another thread that you want a meat hunt. $1000 for 2 does plus a $250 daily fee makes that an expensive meat hunt.
I’ve known the owner and his family for many years. Honest folks with a first rate operation and the ranch is a beautiful property.
You can buy a lot of good beef for that

Not a whole lot to look at in Brady, TX. 😬
Beautiful country if you like live oaks. I do

It did seem high but what do I get for less? They just seemed to be the most impressive from a complete & detailed website perspective.

Thank you for sharing that! I was impressed by the family aspect - not often a husband & wife can work together.

That’s the truth! I’ve got a hankering for Axis or Nilgai and perhaps a fun experience to boot. You’re right though & the beef price vs hunt cost crosses my mind a lot as I research the idea. Just picked up 1/2 beef here in VT for 3.50/lb. Couldn’t believe that. We had just over 360lb cut & wrapped. Shared it all around the family.

Thanks all for your thoughts! It’s a new concept for me too.

If this was an actual consideration I would never buy another hunting license, or tag.
I used to get to hunt a couple of good ranches in
the Brady area. Back then they didn't have the
trendy names they do now, so I couldn't say whether
or not I've ever been to that particular place or not.
It was really good hunting back then, and I'm sure it
still is. We always cull hunted those places for little
costwise since the wealthy hunters didn't want to
"waste " a hunt shooting does or anything less than
a big buck for the office wall.
I always had a great time since I could tag out
Saturday and load up Sunday and head back to the
house. Lots of rattlers and scorpions

Good Luck

Huh? You don't eat beef?

You can buy even more paying for spots on season leases.

Obviously if we priced venison by the pound its not affordable for the most part.

Though we eat a bit of beef, generally a ribeye now and then, tend to prefer deer or wild game all year. Plus its much cleaner/healthier meat for you than beef is these days. Not a slam on producers, just how it is.

I can't believe I'm reading this on a hunting forum.

You can experience a getaway and hunt or you can drive to the grocery store. I'll always choose the former.

This.

I'm interested in taking my son to TX for an exotic and hog hunt this summer, so I'm anxious to hear some recommendations of places to go

I hear you hunt out of a tree stand a lot.

So shouldn't you go with the ladder?
I guess I can’t say much, lease cost me 2000.00, yellow gold probably 1000.00, fuel probably 1000.00, groceries and beer probably 1000.00. Yes, I could buy a hell of a lot of fine beef for what I spend hunting. I could spend that on a guided hunt, probably kill a really nice buck.

But think of all the fun you’d have missed!

Yep, a lot of hogs would still be alive too. I like sitting out there, don’t have to kill something to have a good time.

I completely understand that! Having a spot that you can just hang out in your own head is truly special.

Yeah its not cheap the way some of us play the game but I have a blast out there..Best $ I could spend...
I surely wouldn’t want to add it up…..but hunting is far more than about $ per pound.
I'm grateful to be able to hunt for fun, stress relief, entertainment, camaraderie, fellowship, friendship, commune with nature etc and not because I'm starving to death.

Can't hardly put a price on that!
