My Black Diamond Icon has seen better days. It is heavy, expensive, bulky and generally not a svelte package. But it do light up the woods. I normally default to alot of lumens when I'm coming out in the pitch black. I've never wished for less lumens in the black timber on a dark night. I like to see what I'm tripping on

Which brings me to the Zebralight, the H600w in particular. It is lighter weight than the Icon, has more lumens, and seemingly useful lumens. It does cost a bit more than the Icon when you consider the goofy batteries, and a spare. It also has a few too many lighting modes for my tastes but Ill figure it out. I'm cool with the all-in price if it is as good as it seems.

Anyone have one? Use it in black timber? Concerns?

I have a couple of the H600c model. It’s an awesome light. Very bright, durable, and once the different lighting modes are selected and set, it’s easy and fairly intuitive to use.

I gave my Black Diamond away after I bought my first Zebralight. I now have several of the Zebralight H600w MKIII neutral white headlamps. I have been using them for years with exactly ZERO issues and 100% satisfaction. I do a lot of hunting on big tracts of public land and I walk in to my area, sometimes several miles, in the dark looking out for venomous snakes, bumping into hogs in the dark happens occasionally and there is a healthy bear population. Same for the trip out in the dark. Kill a deer at dark and I do a gutless debone and quarter job and sack up the meat/antlers in the dark and hike the load out. I start the morning with a fully charged light and I carry one charged extra battery in my kit. Good to go with that set up.

Been using Zebralight exclusively for the last 3 hunting seasons. Best lamp I’ve owned.

I have one of these, and I like the light quite a bit. The headband is pretty gimmicky IMO. I wish it had a more traditional adjustment.

I used a Nitecore HC30 for years, and it was great. Until it wasn't. It died slowly with issues around switching. I bought a replacement Nitecore, and it was a POS, so moved on to the Fenix.

I bought an LR40R handheld about a year ago and used it to recover deer in heavy brush. It was more than adequate. Recharges quite quickly too.

Shoot I’m still rolling with PrincetonTec…I’m scared to see what I’ve been missing. (No pun intended)

I've got a couple of the H600w. Standard beam and a floody.

In my opinion the standard beam is a better all-arounder. You can run it very low power to read maps in the dark or whatever, without blowing out your night vision, and still see way out there on higher power.

The floody is nice for a wide angle light-up in the woods or heavier vegetation. It's not so good in open country to see what's out there a ways.

Best thing about the Zebralight or a Fenix is you can run them over with a truck and there still gonna work. Tracking a wounded bear one time I was like fk I need a light! Reached in my pack grabbed my Princeton it was hung up on something, pulled strap harder and muther fker smacked me in the face and shattered. Leave the plastic crap at home for your grandkids to play with.
