Poor results here. Just an extra doe for me and the kids struck out across the board.
We’d put in for very low odds deer and antelope hunts. We got what we expected…nada.
Unit 40 rifle Antelope here.

Nice! Rifle antelope in Idaho is a tough draw
Unit 52 December Elk… this might be good.

Last year it was really warm and they didn’t move down until Dec. We had cow tags and finally found a few the last day of our hunt, Nov 30. 52 was part of our hunt but we found them next door in 45. We didn’t find anything in 52. They moved weeks later than normal.

Might work out perfect for me. Hunt is the entire month of December. 🤞
Is that 52 tag for a bull?

Yes it is. One elk actually. Only 2 non resident tags issued for the hunt.
Have you hunted 52 before? What we've found is that when they move down from unit 44 they like to congregate in large herds on private land along Hwy 20. I think they carry their own 'keep out' signs to hang on fences wherever they are.

Probably true. 😂

Wow...good deal.
I know that desert pretty well but haven't really paid attention to where the elk tend to hang out.
My son, who turns 11 in August, drew a unit 6 youth cow tag. I think I am more excited than he is. He shot his first deer, a whitetail doe last fall. I can’t hardly wait.

When they migrate in late Nov, all bets are off on which posted land they'll be on.
Try the area just north of Gooding. A lot of them winter between there and Bray Lake north of Bliss. You might have to get permission if they get on private land.

Appreciate the info. I’ve never hunted the particular area so I’ll take all the tips I can find.
Haha, everyone says Idaho has the “best” system, 23 years and going. Zilch. Thank god for otc killin
No tags for me and my hunting partner…again.
We got tags with some regularity 15-20 years ago and I even killed an Idaho Boone & Crockett antelope opening day in 1991, but since then our draw success has been pathetic.
Started buying preference points for Wyoming a few years ago so hopefully we can someday get a tag there before I’m too old to hunt any longer.

Congratulations to you both! My oldest boy drew in Unit 2 last year as a 12 yo. We had fun and had a few almost got one situations. It was eye opening for him as to the challenge versus killing deer in a field.
Thanks. It will be a fun one for sure. November snow helps a lot with this tag.
SWEET!!! Antelope tag. (Sarcasm…… kind of hard to NOT draw an unlimited archery tag). And as for Idaho having the best system, I call BS.
