Here's a dandy Sika buck, taken a few years ago in Missouri- wish I could say it was good eating, tasty for sure, but tough as leather!

I didn’t realize the bucks got that big. I’ve only killed a doe. Both of those bucks look like a hoss.
Congratulations to the Grand Poobah and Bighorn !

Yes sika deer on Maryland's eastern shore or half that size.

THAT is a stud!

I'm taking your lead on mine, after my experiences with elk. The big ones are tasty...but chewy, so my Sika is going into nothing but burgers and back straps.

This one was a Japanese Sika. Dybowskis do get bigger, and generally are a lighter color.

I see left the .223 at home this time and pulled out the big guns. What does a Sika taste like?

The meat is super dark, almost purple/black on the three I've killed.

IMHO, something like Axis, but a tad more "gamey",

Makes great jerky!

I was not impressed with the Sitka meat at all. Axis is much better IMO.

I did bring the heavy artillery this time.
Sika to me tastes very much like elk and I actually prefer it slightly to Axis.

Elk is good. Is that a free range Sika?

I have taken more than a couple of Md. sika to the check station that weighed right in the 40-60lbs range. One was 28lbs.... But lovely table fare.

Sportsman’s Warehouse in Memphis, Tn(actually, Southaven, Ms) has a large Sika bull shoulder mount…it is impressive, absolutely beautiful!

Seeing that mount makes me want to hunt them.

Whoop!! Great buck!
Posted By: JENKINS9 Re: SIKA! - 11/14/22
My friend has a full body mount of a sika he killed in Maryland. His German Shepard is bigger then it. He kills one every couple of years on his hunting lease. He mainly has it turned into Bologna and snack sticks. Its not too bad like that.

Here's the shoulder mount of my Sika buck. Doubt I will ever find one bigger!
