Well she said it this spring. "Daddy I'd like to shoot a bear" well lets see our baits went out in mid March we got hits steady by the 12th of April and on the 23rd of April I picked her up from school on Friday (early dismissal @ 2:30) and we headed out to a good bait site and we waited.
The wind was howling when we got there as my buddy and I did our thing with the bait she proclaimed from the 18 foot high tree stand that she did'nt like the rocking and swaying one bit. But alas at just before 7:00PM the winds abaited and at just after 7:00PM we had some visitors.
What a thrill it was to see her reaction she saw them first, and her eyes were like saucers, she was so worked up after the shot she said she had to pee, but could'nt stop her legs from shaking to comfortably climb down the ladder. She eventually did make it down the ladder, and proclaimed her sense of urgency had passed and it must have been the adrenalene making her want to go.
We took some photo's and phoned a buddy to bring his quad.
She used a Ruger #1 RSI in 7x57 shooting 154gr. Hornady RN bullets loaded to about 2350fps. the scope is a Leupold VX1 2-7.
The bear went about 20 yards before giving it up in a rather ugly stump hole.
The bear taped out at 5' nose to tail.
I'm all giggles over the whole encounter, 14 yrs old and already has shot 2 WT bucks 1 WT doe, and now a bear.
Very cool man! congrats to the young lady!
Way Kool, good job to Dad and daughter, nice bruin and another Kool for the rifle she used. Definately style points to her for the rifle...<g>

I think you are a very very lucky man.
Good deal...my oldest daughter started hunting at nine or ten; killed her first big game animal at 15. She's 30 now and killed a gorgeous big mule deer buck last year.
What you and your daughter are doing right now will lay the groundwork for your entire adult lives -- what a great effort for both of you! Way to go...!
Dennis
EXCELLENT!!

Oh yes she is, look under the brim of her hat.
Congrats to both of you! I'm guessing it's hard to say which one of you is smiling the most at this point. Looks like your daughter is off to a great start!
Pretty much the same experience with my daughter when she turned 14. By 17 she had taken two 10 point Whitetails and a +30" Axis as well as skunks & a porcupine. She loved shooting my 280. Told me several times that "all the aspects of the hunt were fun but the best part was shooting that gun !!"
That's a very cool deal right there. Congratulations!
That is way cool. Congrats to her and compliments to you for raising her well. (Even my three-year-old was interested and impressed by the pics.)
Portsider284;
Thank you for sharing the photos and story of your daughter's hunt with us.
Please pass along a hearty "well done" to her on shooting the bear. Very cool rifle as well, might I add!
I'll send you a tip of the hat as well for helping our next generation of hunters get a proper foundation. Well done sir!
Thanks again for sharing the hunt.
Regards,
Dwayne

I don't know, Dober - I'd say a bear hunt is a pretty good thing for a kid that is giving his sick sister some of his bone marrow tomorrow.
Congrats to you both!!!!!
Congrats to both of you. My then-15 yo daughter shot her first bear last June, and we still live her excitement!

i hope the very best for the hunt and the procedure.
GregR-didn't mean what I said about being spoiled in a bad way, sorry if you took it that way.
And both of them will be in my prayers.
Dober
Thanks, guys. This is her second bout with leukemia - we're hoping the bone marrow transplant does the trick.
