What is the best soft side gun case?
Single rifle, long barrel, for a gun with a nice wood stock and hard use.
thanks...
Boyt makes a good quality case. Have 3 of them
Texas Hunt Co makes a nice heavy duty (expensive) soft case.
I have one from Eagle Industries. Very sturdy and well built. Excellent quality.
Allan. Located and made in Colorado,(I hope they still are).
Now that the Chinese have cheapened all the hard cases to about the thickness of a Kleenex box, I'm actually moving back into soft cases. There is very little in the market now for Hard cases between 30 bucks and 125 that interest me...
I like the Levy's soft case with 1" foam. I have about 5 now. The first was with my new rifle back in 1997 (Sako m75ss 300WM). This case lated up till last year with the zipper letting go. It would cost more to fix than the buy a new one.
After having a problem with surface rust on a gun I swear was put away dry a couple of years ago while on a 3 week long hunting road trip (CA to Colorado to Texas then return to CA).
I switched to SKB Dry-Tek Cases, they feature an organic fabric system that lets moisture evaporate, while not allowing water in during transport (from website).
All I know and care is that I havent had that problem since!
Red ox are made locally (Montana) and have been very good. They are expensive but very high quality.

I like the Cabela's Heavy Canvas Scoped Rifle Case:

Boyt once again..last a long time
I have one from Eagle Industries. Very sturdy and well built. Excellent quality.
+1. The only problem is that they're not currently being produced.
I really like my Midway Pro Series soft case of all the many soft cases I own. It has thick padding and takes up near the room of a small hard case, but it protects the rifle well through the rigors of an out of state hunt. Very good reviews on Midway as well:

Boyt, if weight is not an issue
They are heavy
I'll second the SKB Dry-Tek cases. Kept my muzzleloader dry on the front of the ATV while driving in the rain on multiple occasions. Mine have held up very well over the years. And, it's got a good heavy-duty zipper instead of a junky one that gets all screwed up by dirt and such.
I have a Boyt. Easily the best of all my cases. mtmuley
