Only flew one time with rifles and borrowed a cabelas aluminum case. It did just fine. I'm curious what type case those who fly with rifles like? Thanks

6 airplanes and 20,000 miles last June with zero damage to the case or the contents

Pelican

I have flown on 4 or 5 hunts with my Cabela's aluminum gun case and my son has used it several time too. I have never had any problems with it or any of the firearms that were carried in it. I'm not sure they have it in their catalogue any more. It would be nice if it had wheels, but that is the only change I would make in it.

I first read this as "a case for a double rifle" -- for that I use the double AR-15 sized Pelican case (which fits inside a cabelas wheeled suitcase).

I do have a two-rifle Pelican case, but it's heavy

Sorry I never thought of double rifle till now. Yes a case for two rifles is what I meant.

1750
I have 2.

Pelican is what I use and recommend! Military uses it as well and they beat the heck out of their stuff.

Thank you fellas

+5 on the Pelican 1750...the only thing I'll add is that I bought a set of four Master padlocks that snugly fit the holes in the case, and are extra insurance against the case opening when/if the latches fail or are pried off. These locks keep the case closed, tight enough that the rifles can't move nor can they be removed.

Use an electric carving knife to cut the foam to fit; mine holds two full size scoped rifles.

In addition, I carry a roll of duct tape for the latches - I have TSA install all four locks, then ask them to tape around the latches to ensure they stay put. I've never had a problem with them doing this, and I've done it many times.

After many thousands of miles, the case still looks new.

I use an aluminum case made by Americase, the company that made those Cabelas bulletproof cases. They are first rate.

You won't be able to bring it on a bush plane in Alaska.

With the pelican you can just drag it behind.

Again for the Pelican 1750. I havent flown with mine, but I put my rifles in the case and throw it in the bed of my truck... I do a TON of off road driving for work, so I tend to drive my truck like a work truck off road (hard, faster than should be, but dont beat the piss out of it). Moral of the story, the Pelican protects my rifles and scopes perfectly. I also used a carving knife to trace my rifles, they are almost TOO snug as they take a little work to get them in the foam properly.

Another vote for the Pelican 1750. Have had for probably 5 years now, 3-4 airline trips per year, zero issues.

Pelican 1750's.....boot heel tough.

I checked my aluminum case with the airline that got me to the bush plane and picked it up on the way back. I'd have had to do it with any hard case. I took a soft case to use on the bush plane.

Another vote for the Pelican. Numerous flights on commercial and bush planes, lots of miles in the back of my truck. Very happy with their product.

Just bought a Pelican 1750 and the middle sheet of foam that came with it cut easily with a sharp, round bellied knife blade.

Future reference...nothing trims foam better than an electric carving knife.

TuffPak is the better choice for actual traveling as you can get a lot more than just two guns in it.

Electric carving knife. I buy new foam at the fabric store for different configurations

Those two rifle Americase aluminum cases with wheels are hard to beat going through airports and such. They also have a little flip up shelf to keep your duffel bag from sliding off and places to hook bungies on. Having carried a lot of gun cases and drug a lot of duffle bags through airports this has worked best for me. When you get where you are going leave the aluminum case at the hotel and put your gun in a soft case for super cub flights, etc.

Pelican 1750 for me too

Is that a picture of a 1750? If so, I didn't realize they are big enough for two bolt action rifles.

I have an older aluminum two gun case made by Kalispell. I am not sure they are still in business. It is very heavy for an aluminum case, but if memory serves me correctly they used a little thicker aluminum than their competition.
