How does that oryx compare to gemsbuck on the dinner table? Guess you went to TX again.
A lot of great eats there! Congrats!
Bob...it tastes the same! Its excellent!
OK, no axis this trip?
No..I was due to shoot an axis doe, but blew a knee out and had to go home to the Doc early! Axis is on the docket for this fall though!

Nice animals.

Sorry about the knee. Hope you heal up quick.....
Well done Tom, filling the freezer will high quality protein. You the man!!!!!!

Texas again?
Yup!
That Oryx is going to be some awesome eating!
Nice work Tom. Congrats and great shooting. Thanks for sharing the pics.
Congrats Ingwe.
Did the knee blow getting in the golfcart? Kicking the feeder? Climbing the steps to the blind? Getting outta the truck to open a gate? How else could it happen in texas?.......grin

I was bending down to kiss a fallow deer in the petting zoo, when a billy goat hit me from behind!
I forgot all about those dam billy goats.
You have the Texas thing all wrong...

Its not a golf cart..its a " Mule" or a " Polaris"...

I can't reach high enough to kick the feeder...

I'm pushing 65 years old, the steps up to the blind really are getting to be a chore...

Being the client, I don't have to open gates!
We miss your wisdom in the basement.

Please come back.

Nice hogs by the way. There's more of those downstairs.

You have to be one of the only guys from Montana who vacations in Texas.
You're supposed to live in Texas and vacation in Montana!

Nice animals and good shooting!
What's your load?

Yes sir!!!
How can you stunt shoot if you don't clock you non-Hornady/super-long ogive, moly-slithered killing pills?

Get well Tom and keep us posted.

The REAL question is how can I stunt shoot without posting pics of thousands of stored rounds, dozens of Jolly Roger rifles, mostly wet and rusty, and belittling anyone who doesn't do the same?

I'm a " Gentleman" stunt shooter...the world is changing....just say "no" to Moly....

Damn I love the Weby, EH.

Those rosewood caps make it elegant, and it looks magnificent in that terrain.

Thnx Ken. My sight in is +3" at 100 yds and at 400 yds I simply hold on hair and WT go home w/me.

I've practiced aplenty with quart oil bottles filled w/water. At 300 yds they erupt.

I don't spend a lot of time ON a bench. Field range & positions are much more important.

Jerry
Nice ram Ingwe.

So,you finally killed an animal with a .270..... you go girl! wink

The 6.8 spc is the metric distant cousin ( and NOT the Arkansas 'Marrying" kind of cousin) to the Uber gay .270..

Obviously used by men with good taste, not men that taste good....
I used a .27-06 on that axis.

Deal with it.
Thats just wrong....
It's "that's" ya grammar nazi.....

Get your white azz back down to the basement. Your knowledge is missed.
Nice ram & fox squirrel 👍
Thnx WCH

You do realize that wearing blue jeans while out hunting is dangerous and potentially life threatening right?

You're setting a bad example for the kids.

You should be a Kuiu warrior from now on.

The actual bullet hole is under the knife handle, right on the 'front shoulder' because I didn't want to shoot it in the 'back shoulder'....
Hey Ingwe

I really really hope that you ACCEPT that I was JERKING your chain.
Honestly. It is ALL in fun man.

Jerry
I know that....

But I love the real nay sayers...Had one on another forum after a similar post that remarked " I'm glad it all worked out for you..."

Obviously he didn't approve of stunt shooting.......usually the case with those who have opinions instead of experience.

Carry on!
Lets talk about stunt shooting some more, Last winter I had a wounded vet come with a friend to the ranch as our guest, he turned out to be one hell of a guy, he had lost both arms in Iraq, right arm from the shoulder, left arm above the elbow, we rigged up a AR-15 .223 with a electric car antenna so he could bite the switch and pull the trigger, taped the whole thing together with black tape, and tied the rifle around his neck with a scarf.

And took him to the range, I'll be damned it worked almost, problem was when he bit down on the switch the damn AR, would start shooting and wouldn't stop till he spit the switch out. we finally figured it out, but if he was a little slow it would still double tap.

next morning we went to a deer blind over on the West Ranch, that's usually a good spot, took us awhile to get set up, come day light no deer, no pigs, but we had a

4X4 bull Elk, walk in to water about 85 yards away, Now I have killed lots of elk over the last 65 yrs of hunting and guiding but never with a .223, but what the hell I told him if he gets broad side, shoot him behind the shoulder, i will back you up with my rifle.

Bam! BAM! Elk folds up like a rag, That was Stunt Shooting. and a Hell of a lot of fun. Rio7

GOOD on you and him for making it happen.
YEP! Kudos!

Ive got a friend that recently did some stunt shooting in Africa....he has arms though..

5 giraffe with a .223....one shot each.
RIO -

That's DOUBLE impressive. Not talking about double tap.

If you don't mind I would REALLY like to know what bullet and
what velocity ? ?

--- 65 yrs of hunting ! ! Fantastic **

Jerry
jwall, The ammo was Hornady 55 Gr. bthp, that's all I had .223 ammo don't know the fps, It worked I have killed a lot of pigs with that ammo and a few deer. wasn't planning on shooting an Elk. Rio7
ingwe, Never shot a Giraffe, but would think a .223 would do the job just like anything else, if put in the right spot. But-- But -- everyone knows Elk are bullet proof, Rio7
RIO

Thnx. I wouldn't have expected those results. It IS impressive to me.

Jerry
jwall,Some times we just get lucky. Rio7
Nice critters. Always enjoy your posts/pics. I get a kick out of the ethics committee who damn the 223 for being too ineffective on game yet damn cross bows for being overly effective on game. I hate to admit it but I know a few folks who have filled the freezer every year with 22shorts. Goes to show you who has experience and who doesn't when it comes to stunt shooting.
My father in law took a friend elk hunting several times. This guy would get "bull" fever and shake like a tuning fork and hit three bulls very badly. Guts, knee, azz etc. and my fil shot them all with a 223 and 55gr cup and cores right behind the shoulder. Said they found all three bullets under the hide on the off side. Who knew?

Fred
Well I'll admit that I am beginning to rethink my original prejudice on using the 223 and 222 for deer especially with some of the newer premium bullets. Based on the explosive nature of the traditional c&c bullets I use to see on groundhogs I would have been hesitant thinking if I hit a rib the lighter c&c bullets bullet may not penetrate.obviouslt if you slide it between the ribs it would be fine or if you hit them in the head but I would want to definitely use a premium bullet there. However I will say the giraffe story really is surprising.those bad boys can be 2or 3 times the weight of an elk and would have the skeletal structure to match I'm guessing. That's some stunt shooting for sure.
Stunt shooting and aoudad... Last one I saw killed was with a glock 20 in 10mm... LOL.
Shooting giraffes would be about like shooting a farmers cow, the ones we saw in Africa were quite tame..

Kinda what I thought, but they had a surplus and needed lion food...Giraffes are one of few animals I couldn't bring myself to kill.
Have had to shoot a few cows over the years.....
I'm not really saying I would like to shoot a giraffe quite the contrary but those things are huge compared to an elk, and much too big to be plinking at with a 223.

I haven't considered killing a Giraffe.... I'm NOT criticizing anyone for killing Zebra...
They seem to me to be like a striped Mule.

I would shoot a Zebra before a Giraffe. Just me.

Jerry
Colt HBAR II launched Hornady 75 gr HPBT via their Steel Match ammo.

Don't think anyone would be plinking at them with a 223, just shoot em in the brain and call it dead one shot at a time...

Pretty sweet Ed!
These aren't pics where they were shot with 270s and then someone laid a 223 rifle across the carcass before the pics
were taken, again?

All the "experts" will tell ya that no one can kill anything with a 223, they can only wound them.

I've been waiting for the opportunity to try out the 55 TTSX...

on the neighbor's cat, or the chickens the new neighbors moved into the neighborhood with, and let them run loose all
over the place...

ideal would be a two for one shot.
John, I was told flat out that Id need at least a .270 for that Oryx....
Yeah Tom, I've got a friend that everyone is trying to convince him, he needs a 300 Win for elk hunting on the property
he inherited that is loaded with Elk.

Even tho I am a 260 fan, my first recommendation for him was a 6.5 Creedmoor... just because they were more available
than a 260

People are funny tho... I responded to a thread years ago about a 243 on elk and boy did I get flamed in campfire fashion..

so I started a thread about using a 223 for elk, and got 10 pages plus of what bullet to use, almost instantly... and no flaming.

with folks asking was I planning using an AR or a bolt action?

Hey if an Injun can drop something with an Arrow... you'd think one of white guys should be able to drop something with
a darn decent bullet regardless of caliber... big or small.
