Hey guys, I will be heading to NW Nebraska for a DIY OTC archery Mule deer hunt this year (2nd or 3rd week of September). I will be on a Solo hunt so any help on where to start would be a huge help. I'm coming from Ohio and have been studying maps and harvest numbers. Just not sure where to focus on and only having one set of eyes and legs will make things tough.
Thank you in advance!
Call the COs for the area where you're going to hunt, they'll help you focus your efforts. Dan Kling covers Dawes and Sioux counties and Kyler Prochaska covers Dawes and Sheridan counties. Kling's telephone number is 308-430-0572 and Prochaska's telephone number is 308-430-3984.

Other than the Nebraska National Forest south of Chadron, northwestern Nebraska is mostly wide open prairie with a fair amount of contour. It looks like it would be tough country to hunt, a lot of spot and stalk.

Drive carefully, as there are more people driving under the influence of alcohol in the Chadron area since the beer stores in Whiteclay were shut down.

Thanks for the info. I spoke with them today. I’m still not sure where in Nebraska to look for Muley. They did suggest asking for private permission also.

Good luck with cold calling land owners to ask for permission to trespass on their ground.

I've seen more mule deer around Scottsbluff than anywhere else in Nebraska, but there isn't much public ground in that area.

The CO for that area is Scott Brandt and his telephone number is 308-631-0663.
