I think I know the answer but want to be sure.

Trying to pick what cow/calf elk tag to apply for, type 6.

The site shows nice tables with license type, season dates, limitation, archery date, archery limitations

I have a question on a tag when the limitations contradict seemingly. So... the one I am looking at says:

Tag Season Dates License Limits Special Archery Dates special archery limits
xxx-6 Aug 15 - Oct 14 Cow or calf valid on private land Sep. 15 - Sep. 30 Valid in the entire area(s)
xxx-6* Oct 15 - Dec 31 Cow or calf valid off national forest Sep. 15 - Sep. 30 Valid off National Forest

I can read that two ways, the archery limits override the tag or the archery limits add extra restrictions.

So the base question, given the above, ignoring private land (only hunting public). With this tag, I apparently can't hunt the National forest with rifle, I get that. But what about the bow? The first line says "Valid in entire area", My guess is that is an EXTRA QUALIFIER on the "private land only" part of the tag, but I want to be sure.

Can I bowhunt the National forest with this tag? I am guessing no, but want to make sure. Noticing the "off national forest" puts a big crimp in my plans already!
Area 6 -6 are off of National forest, archery season too. Type 1 and 4 are valid for entire area.https://wgfd.wyo.gov/WGFD/media/content/Final%20Regs/April_CH-7_Final_4-23-19.pdf
Scroll down to special archery seasons to see that limitation.
Mostly private land and hard to find access, that is why every year there are hundreds of cow tags left over.
Talk with the GW, Kelly Todd for clarification.
It is a general area for elk off the National forest.
We hunt 6 for cows so know it fairly well.
pm sent Bob.

Thanks! We are not in area 6, but asking about type 6. thanks for the PM!
It doesn't say you cann't hunt with a bow in rifle season. You must obey the rifle season rules, orange....
If you don't have an "archery only" license You'll need to but an archery license for bow hunting.
