There was a young lad on TexasBoars site who used a 204R on the family ranch - lots of big hogs . Members always asked why the small caliber - answer - cause that's what i have .
Head and neck shots will do the deed with sub-caliber cartridges .
Pulled off a pretty good one on my way home from work today

I will now have to bow to the Master!
Rifle is the same, but in the much larger .223
Do I get any style points or anything cause the pig is a tad bigger?
Yes and spotted pigs are extra points too. Very nice
GOOD! I need the extra help when you are going after them with a vintage .17 Rem....
But I feel I've been de-throned!
It’s admittedly not my normal pig rifle but was all I had in the truck besides the 2” Combat Masterpiece. I could have done some real damage if I’d have been carrying the normal AR full of 77TMKs. Had about 15 pigs with him but headshots on 30mph pigs are tough. The AR is back in the rig now for the next rodeo.

Congrats on a fine shot. Myself I won't shoot a hog with anything less than a 55 grain bullet. And that placed in the neck of spinal cord. But each to his/her own.
On the other hand it's a freaking hog! Kill it with a rock if that's all you've got!!!
I echo T_Inman. The .17 at those velocities is a way bigger hammer than you would think. I too had an older BDL pressed checkered .17 with the barrel cut to 20". It still ran about 3950 with less than hot loads and killed stuff really dead.
Oh yeah the old BDL has electrocuted the schit out of everything I’ve ever pointed it at. I have a few hundred Barnes Original .030 jacket soft points. Barnes says they never made any but I somehow ended up with them in sealed orange label boxes. Loaded up a box yesterday for my dangerous game loads. I wish they made TSXs in .172” it would be a giant killer for sure then.
My old buddy from Glenallen had killed 17 wolves and 8 bull caribou with his old BDL. He was a fan of the 25gr Hornady HP driven to about 3800fps with 3031. Hard to argue with his results but I’m a CFE223 fan.
