Bloodied up my Ruger carbine. Remington .44 mag 240 gr semi jacketed hollow point HTP. In the head and ended up in the base of the neck. 16” of penetration from about 40 yards. Jacket separated from the core but were found next to each other in the neck. Pics of a dead bear and a Trump 2020 hat to make the liberals cry twice.

I like that alot. Looks like a sweet bear. Ought to be a cool looking skull with a 44 size hole in it
Lewis county. 300lbs butterball. Nicest, densest hide of any bear I’ve shot. Really happy with this one. He hung over both ends of a 6’ picnic table.
Well done! Congratulations!
Congratulations! That's a really nice bear.
From there on up to Harrisville is a great hunting area.
I always tend to think the name Croghan should be accompanied with Bologna!
Congrats! Great bear. Thanks for sharing.
K O O L bear, performance, and Hat.

Nice Bear !!
Your taxidermist is going to be pi$$ed at you !
I’m thinking of doing something different. A robe or cape. I have a 500lber from last year with him already. Running out of room for bear mounts
Our club is in town of Diana. After the snow we were coming across bear tracks everywhere, and they're showing up on cameras, but no one has run into one yet.
4 or 5 days after I shot this guy, I Ran across these

There is an old hunting camp/ loging camp between Harrisville and Croghan. It's known as Number One. Do either of you know about it? I snowmobiled there from Oswegatchie in the 1950's with my dad. We made it a 2 day trip and camped in the old building there. I vaguely remember being on Bryant Bridge road part of that trip. I think that was the name of that road. The date was sometime around 1955-57.
Thanks
Jim
Never heard of it. Next time I head up, I’ll ask around. I know some old timers up there that might be able to give some insight.
Asked my father about it the Number One camp - he remembers being in that area in the 30s and staying there once in the 40s. It was the remains of an old logging camp with a couple of cabins fixed up for hunting. Bob Burke used it for awhile, then late some of the LaParrs used it. It was past Bryants Bridge, out what is now the Bald Mountain road, near Wolf Pond in Herkimer County.
Evening hunter 4623 Wow nice bear, nice shot, big head A. Not you the bear. Bet that slowed him down quick, ya could of used yr 22rimfire ???? Solids though. Very nice, show us pic of the 500lb er!!! Bill out, 🐾👣🇨🇦
That 44 Carbine is my, "regret I ever sold it" rifle. Nice bear, if it was mine I'd name him Cyclops.
Did you get the bear in the Adirondacks? and did you shoot the 500 lb bear with the 44 also?
NY Bear came from foothills of the Adirondacks. Big bear was shot with a Marlin 336 in .35 rem. 150 gr corelok.
Love my old (4 digit serial number) Ruger .44 carbine.
My brother belongs to the Stillwater Club in St Lawrence Co, just a little east of there. He said they killed more bears than deer there this year. Friend of ours killed a huge bear there about ten years ago.
Congrats! I head down south to Virginia with the oldest son to chase some behind hounds. It’s an annual thing for us.
