Flew down to Texas to do a quick 3 day hunt by Turkey, Texas, home of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys

Some beautiful country and drove out one day to Palo Duro and Caprock Canyon to see the buffalo

Most of the hunting was in stands on the edge of large fields surrounded by thick areas and /or canyons

Saw lots of whitetail, mule deer, turkeys and heard and saw a lot of coyotes from stands

Butchered and saved the meat. Fantastic eating. Took the back straps, shoulders, hind quarters.

A. I can't explain it but I LOVE that type of country.....(except in Texas > LOL )
We've spent time in Arizona, Sedona, Flagstaff, etc. Red dirt, red rocks beautiful.


B. IS that a mineral rich soil where the Buff are "LICKING" ?
That's what it made me think of anyway.

They were into some kind of mineral in the soil. Couldn't figure out what is was.

I have seen WT do that for:

A Salt that was either a natural content or poured on stumps and dissolved into the dirt.

B Some (?) mineral that was naturally in that area.

Beautiful photos and congrats on the hunt. I have only visited that area never hunted there. But it is surprising how you have that miles and miles of (flat) Texas and then it opens up to really beautiful scenery.

That is beautiful red dirt country. Texas Red Dirt music gets its name from all the red dirt in Texas and Oklahoma
