Once again, my entire family has struck out on Moose, Big Horn and Mountain Goat drawings. If I could only win the lottery I could possibly hunt something other than elk, deer and antelope. Oh well. Good luck to the rest of you. Well, other than the a-holes.
TheBigSky: Thanks for the drawing heads up - sorry you weren't all drawn.
I headed over to check on my status.
Hold into the wind

BS< a guy should be happy he can hunt all three of those.. Some are stuck with the lowly whitetailed deer every year.!!! Glad I am not one of them!!!!

Don't get me wrong. I do count my blessings. However, if I reach age 70 without ever drawing one of those tags, I'm going to become "old man poacher". Oh well, I'll say the same thing I've been saying for 40 years, "maybe next year".
Same here. 30 years of trying and will try again next year. I wonder how many got moose, sheep or goat on their first try. I know a few who did in the past, but not so far this year.
Oh, that is a bummer!!! I have never drawn a goat tag, only put in for a couple years maybe 10 or 15.. Gave up now due to age, but I have drawn 4 moose, two cow and two bulls, and two bighorn sheep tags.. So I guess i was lucky... Good luck in the future..
Yep I’ve learned to lower my expectations on these oil critters, just be pleasantly surprised if ya ever draw
Nothing again. Every year I get excited because I feel surely this is the year. Well, just like in football, there's always next year.
Nothing here. Maybe next time.
Wish I’d been applying for sheep (in AZ) since I was 10. Gonna take a lot of luck to draw in my lifetime
Kind of like drawing a Moose tag in Maine.. My Buddy has been trying for 35 years. Now he has me in this year.. If I get one I will probably get shot by him...

I got a goat tag on my first try......in 1975!

As for this years drawing, just another year of added bonus points.
Sheep and goats are a once in a lifetime deal here in Oregon, unless one can afford the auction tags. Been trying since 1975. Several first time kids from my hunter ed classes have done bighorn though. Damn little bastards.
I got my goat tag in 1976.........
Since then and again.......
points
The best I've done (including this year, another zero) in over 45 years of applying is a ewe bighorn tag, back when you could apply for one separately from the ram tag.

My wife, however, drew a bull moose permit the first time she applied. in 1989--and 20 years later drew a cow moose tag.
Really a neat deal for Fish and Game now that they don't refund any of the money. If you really want one of those tags I've heard working for F&G seems to help...hint.
I didn’t draw a 570 elk permit for the fourth consecutive year. It’ll happen some day!
Not angry here - I drew a moose tag, only took 32 years, which appears to be better than average from the odds tables. (Now I feel the hate/envy grin)
I don't understand why someone would wait 35 years for a tag the is almost non-existent, like a Maine moose tag or a Pennsylvania elk tag. To each their own I guess, and good luck to all. I personally will just pay the money for a hunt where I can get a tag, like Newfoundland, British Columbia, or even Alaska. In 35 years, I could pay for a couple of those hunts, vs trying to win the lotto once lol. Especially when states keep some of the moneys for applications, even if you don't draw.
Not MT, but I haven’t drawn a quality elk tag in over 15 years. Fugg the bonus point crap. 16 bonus points does little good when 99% of applicants have about the same number. I’ll just give them the $6 for a raffle tag chance and call it good.
I've been lucky in Idaho. We don't have a point system. Moose are now 1 bull and 1 cow in a lifetime. When I applied for the bull, I drew it the 1st time - almost unheard of. Antelope are about the hardest to draw here with odds usually being about 1 chance in 25. I've drawn twice in 30 years which is well above average. There are a few doe/fawn hunts with much better odds but most hunters prefer getting a buck.
The IDFG has talked about starting a point system but Idaho hunters prefer to have an equal chance each year so they haven't done it.

Without any kind of point system, why would the odds of you drawing it the first year you applied be any different than drawing it after multiple years of unsuccessfully applying?
Other than a Montana moose tag (with max points), I have never drawn a single tag on points. I've only drawn 5 "good" tags in about 22 years of playing this game. My other 4 good tags (NM barbary sheep, WY moose, ID deer and AK elk) were all random. I have been putting in for 50 or so tags yearly for several years, building points in some states, and just playing the random odds in others. I have yet to draw a Rocky Mountain bull tag, anywhere, in any state. I've drawn some decent odds tags for other critters like caribou and antelope, but that's a moot point.

That's OK though. I'll take my general and unlimited tags, without complaint.
Ted I’m in the same brockedick camp as you!! 😂😂 Pay your $$ and take your chances..
Just got back from several days scouting for goat in 323. Had lots of fun hiking with the son and son-in-law and back country camping. Even saw a few goats!

Hey WAM I am at 22 points for quality bull. Washington State at its best. And every year I am seeing less and less quality bulls, by the time I draw I will be lucky to shoot a spike.
